I hope Newey won't sell out for a project whose goal is to make the owner's mediocre son a world champion. Yes, it could be seen as the ultimate achievement for an engineer, making a car so dominant that even a middling driver could become a world champion in it.
But it will never happen. Lance will never come close to sniffing a world championship. So it would be a terrible way for Newey to waste his talents at the end of his career.

This seems odd, I assumed after all the talk of the new German team wanting German drivers that they would want a German to lead the team.
At least not an Italian!!!

What is frustrating to me is that Piastri drove horribly in the last stint. Speculation, but I don't think Piastri wins the race if he pitted first. I think Norris would have caught and passed Piastri.
This is my issue too. It is like Mclaren thought the race ended at the last pit stop. Lando clearly drove waaaay better the last stint and would have easily won no matter if he pitted before or after.
Piastri's first F1 win was out of pity. I wonder if that bothers him.

You're out of your mind if you think Lando would've easily passed Oscar with a 3 - 4 second gap on this track and only 20 or so laps remaining.
It's one of the hardest tracks to pass on in F1.

I wish he'd have let Oscar pass him immediately, and then raced him.
Then again, who knows what was agreed to in the pre-race meeting? Maybe an agreement that some of them regretted?
I'm guessing the team learned a lot from this race.
All the same, made for good race drama.

I fully expect Binotto to hire his friend Guenther Steiner.

Word on the street is that the signing of Binotto should improve the odds of signing Sainz.

The Saturdays of the season so far:
Magnussen with the worst record (6 fewer Q3 appearances than his teammate). Perez and Ricciardo are greatly underperforming (5 fewer Q3 appearances than their teammates), Stroll is mildly underperforming. Tsunoda and Hulk are doing really well.

Piasti was putting tires in the gravel when he wasn't even under pressure. He would have never survived Lando putting the full press on him and lando would have had better tires under him than Piastri.

Wasn’t Landon pushing the tires that whole time while be asked to back off? One would assume Oscar wasn’t pushing the tires because he was also asked? I don’t know if we really now what would have happened. But I love the drama
It’s remarkable that McLaren smoked everyone and was doing what max usually does in a “we are so far ahead you guys can back off the tires now” thing.
Don’t have that on my F1 bingo card when the season started.
