Hard to believe they are up against the cap this early in the season and after races have been cancelled.
Mercedes has introduced just 24 declared upgrades this season, compared to 40 for Ferrari and 38 each for McLaren and Red Bull.
Andrea Stella when asked about Toto’s comment: “I actually don’t believe you.”

Toto says Mercedes is too broke to develop the car:
??Is Mercedes still the best car? Antonelli thinks not and calls for upgrades, but Wolff says there's no money
??Antonelli: "We're no longer the fastest car on the grid! We probably have the second or third fastest car now. McLaren has taken a big step forward, especially since Hungary, with the major upgrade package they introduced"
??Wolff: "We're up to our necks in water when it comes to the budget cap. We can't bring big upgrades every two or three races. We try to distribute the money evenly throughout the season, based on our calculations to determine when we can make the biggest changes and maximize points in the championship. But we've undoubtedly spent more than others in the early months of the year or we're saving more for the end; I can only understand it that way"

If tweet fails to load, click here. "I mean, Kimi was ahead of me anyway," Russell said after the race on the decision. "He deserved to finish ahead. When you're in the race you want to fight for every position, but with the pace on the new tire he would have overtaken anyway. Just happy to be standing on the podium. It's been a strong weekend for me, so I'll take the positives."
Russell elaborated on the decision later and why he did not feel hard done by. "We've always said as a team when we're on different strategies we're never going to fight, and we're always going to do what's better," Russell said.
"That's always just been our sort of rules, and the fact is Kimi was ahead of me before the VSC [virtual safety car], and he tried something different to, you know, protect us as a team. He kind of copy-pasted what the Ferraris did."

Was a good race. George shouldn’t have moved over.

Kimi should have had to make that pass. They are 1 and 2 in the championship.

McLaren has made an impressive step forward this season. They seem to be the best at mid season developments. I saw this Ruth Buscombe tweet explaining that they haven’t been running the ideal gear ratios in their transmission. They’ve had to grin and bear it so far this season but the worst tracks are behind them and she expects them to be good for the rest of the season.

Looks like the sprint weekend caught Aston Martin. Not off to a great start even with their upgrades.
?? Fernando Alonso (22nd), after his rear wing failed to open: "The throttle was OPEN when I was braking. That makes it hard to brake the car"
"We've had issues with the engine's drivability: it was difficult to brake the car because it was pushing us in the braking zones".
"The engine was overperforming and Straight Mode wasn't working. The combination of both problems made the laps very tricky".
"In Free Practice we'd taken a step forward, but we're in an immature phase. If we'd had 3 Free Practice sessions, we'd have nailed the setup".

So to break it down for my American friends in freedom unit , Max Verstappen is making
Per Grand Prix : € 3.83 million
Per practice session : € 1.53 million
Per race lap : € 63,000
Per minute of racing : € 38,000
Per pitstops : € 1.9 million
I feel like having Max under long term contract will help them attract the best engineers and give them the best chance to get back on top.

He announced he will still be doing his GT3 thing and will try to run some 24 hour races if the schedule allows. Not sure every team could offer him that.
Been a lot of talk about the next regulation lately. Even Toto said he hates the new start procedure and as a “purist” would like to see some changes. Prolly be V8s

He was already around 70 million euros a year. Rumor was that Redbull was willing to pay him a lot to get him to drop his exit clauses.

If tweet fails to load, click here. This means that after four years in Formula 1, Liam Lawson will STILL not have raced a full season with one team.
2023: 5 races as injury replacement for Ricciardo
2024: 6 races as replacement for Ricciardo
2025: 2 races for Red Bull before being dropped
2026: replaces Hadjar

Yuki has more experience in the main Redbull team but has very little experience in these new cars. Liam has had a solid season so far and could potentially help Redbull more.
Will be interesting to see how his performances compare to his Racing Bulls races.

I think Danny Ric missed 5 races with a broken bone in his wrist. He broke his by crashing the car on race week. I guess for Isaac it depends on when the injury actually happened, could have happened 3 weeks ago already.

So somehow the guy who was replaced after 2 races, will replace a guy who replaced his replacement...
