Gotta be taking a new power train component??
Nothing in the news about a penalty, just that the FIA has come out and said the Stewards ruled wrong about the incident.
And why would he take a penalty? Its not parc ferme and theres no way he's used his allotment

Yes, but he was on the verge of taking a grid penalty anyway, so they're burning it at Spa where he thinks he can probably make it up..
On the other hand, if he gets wrecked out racing with the Strolls and Sargents of the world on lap 1, then Lando could gain some serious ground on him
Too bad he lost those 7 points to Piastri

Just found this...
Damn, I didn't realize he had taken so many components up to this point.
Doesn't bode well for backhalf of the year.

Max Verstappen is set for a 10-place grid penalty at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix for exceeding his engine allowance, Motorsport.com has learned.
Verstappen had been on the cusp of a grid penalty for a while after losing a power unit in practice for June's Canadian Grand Prix.
That meant Red Bull had to introduce the Dutchman's fourth Honda power unit in Spain, the maximum number allowed per year, with over half the season left to run.
Red Bull had therefore been braced for a grid drop for some time, and Motorsport.com understands it has now strategically picked this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix as the best opportunity to take a fifth combustion engine and incur a 10-place grid penalty.
The race at Spa-Francorchamps, where overtaking is less difficult than at most other venues, has historically been a prime opportunity to take grid penalties with minimal consequences.

What happens when he takes his 6th power unit down the road?

Saw that they didn’t adjust the points scoring positions. Still only the top 10 scores points.

I don't think it gets progressively worse, but someone can correct me.
But if already taking component allotment penalties before the summer break, betting odds have to say he will take at least one more penalty later this year.
Just adds to Checo underperforming and Mclaren closing gap on constructors.

Unless I'm misreading the rules, it sounds like if he goes thru another 4, the second penalty is only 5 grid positions

I believe Mclaren will win constructors this year.

Wasn’t Landon pushing the tires that whole time while be asked to back off? One would assume Oscar wasn’t pushing the tires because he was also asked? I don’t know if we really now what would have happened. But I love the drama
It’s remarkable that McLaren smoked everyone and was doing what max usually does in a “we are so far ahead you guys can back off the tires now” thing.
Don’t have that on my F1 bingo card when the season started.
I personally think McLaren was effing with him to try and get him to slow down for Piastri. Lando's tires were doing just fine.

So out of who's left, I don't see anyone winning a race outside of some insane circumstances happening during a race
Tsunoda
Stroll
Hulk
Mag
Albon
Zhou
Sargeant

Yuki or Hulk would be the most likely I assume, maybe Stroll but it would definitely take some kind of insane scenario.
I just thought it was wild that over half the paddock have race wins under their belts. Especially since Mercedes and Red Bull have been so dominant over the past decade.

That’s how it was in 2021, which is why Mercedes started putting a new engine in Hamilton’s car every 2 races.

Random thing I was thinking of while watching the race.
Why don't teams like Haas or Williams send Hulk or Albon out on the final lap or two on a freh set of tires if they have them and let them get the fastest lap. I understand not letting Zhou, Mag, Stroll, Sargeant out there because they're probably not even fast enough, but if you put a fresh set of tires on a semi fast car, you could earn the point. I mean the lap times were so much slower than qualifying times.
I know it's just a point but if you're out of the points already, why not try and earn one, especially when you're a team where points are hard to come by. I'd rather pit Hulk or Albon and have them finish 17th with the fastest lap instead of 12th and 13th and getting nothing.

Have to be in the top ten to get the bonus point for fastest lap.

From 2014-2023, Red Bull and Mercedes accounted for 87.5% of the total wins in that decade. Ferrari was 10.78%, with McLaren, Alpha Tauri, and Alpine each getting a single win in that decade.

Let's break this down further, who has scored a podium?
Stroll (~156 starts, 3 podiums)
Albon (~94 starts, 2 podiums)
Magnussen (~176 starts, 1 podium)
Only four drivers have never even been on a podium:
Hulkenberg (~216 starts, 0 podiums)
Tsunoda (~76 starts, 0 podiums)
Zhou (~57 starts, 0 podiums)
Sargeant (~34 starts, 0 podiums)
Of course everyone knows Hulk is the world champion of race starts without a podium, but he is enjoying a career revival. Hulk and Yuki can get podiums if they can get on the right teams. It would have to be crazy circumstances to even score a podium with Haas and VCARB this year.
Zhou and Sargeant are probably at the end of their F1 careers already.

The crazier stat to me is, in that same decade, Rosberg has the third most wins of anyone. He holds nearly 10% of the total wins in that span. Max and Lewis combine for 66.18% in that decade.
