Just getting caught up on the whole weekend.

Hot damn, that was a good race. The last three races have been great. I'm getting spoiled.

As for McLaren's '88 season while I hate them I don't want RBR to be able to claim the greatest season ever though I don't hate RBR or anyone there currently, maybe just Newey for never designing a red car and building a lot of cars that beat red cars. Everyone should read his book "How to Build a Car".

You don’t like senna, Prost, both, or just McLaren?

Respect but disliked Senna and more people would feel the same if he hadn't forgotten to turn left at Tamburello*. I like to counter the oft proffered opinion that Senna was the greatest F1 driver ever by the fact in the same car over two years at the height of his capability Porst won more points than he did in the same car.** He was F1s greatest qualifier but his wreckers or checkers attitude even with a huge lead (see Monaco 1988 ***) prevents him from being the best F1 driver.

Love Prost

Hate the modern McLaren with the heat of 1,000 suns, this does not count the Bruce era because I liked Bruce. I might cool off some now with Zak but I just can't. Ron Dennis was created from a hemorrhoid cut from the devil's a-hole. He and Nigel Stepney can both DIAF (except Nige is dead probably putting blam on the devil's a-hole as we speak).

* nobody try to educate me on what really happened

** let's not talk French F1 politics

*** let's not discuss conspiracy theories

The Ferrari split strategy at the beginning kind of halfway worked. I think everyone knew they wouldn't ask Sainz to switch; but that was probably the right move to let Leclerc pull a pretty good lead then take the 1 2.

Before the safety car came out for Logan, Ferrari was telling LeClerc his target was a 5 second gap behind Sainz. I think when Sainz pitted, the gap was over 8 seconds. LeClerc’s slow lap time under the safety car probably kept Max behind Sainz when Sainz pitted. I believe when Merc double stacked, Hamilton blocked LeClerc into his pit box so he couldn’t release to get back ahead of Lando or George. Great chess match there. Ferrari did sacrifice LeClerc but also won the gp due to LeClerc’s execution of the strategy (along with Sainz giving Lando DRS). At least LeClerc got one spot back with George’s crash.

am a bit split on that because if they had done it they would have beaten McLaren's 1988 season which some of you know my hate for McLaren is unparalleled.
I'm with you there but Ron Dennis is gone and this Zach schmuck seems harmless and quite stupid so I've started to get over it. Heal with me brother

Can someone explain what type of situation/scenario calls for that Sainz strategy today?

Ferarri has a tire degradation issue, a bad one. But this track sucks arse and is impossible to pass so you can go slow and park it in the middle of the track and people can't pass, then they will slow down because they will overheat the car and wear down their tires if they follow too close.

The late yellow saved this race from being a real stinker. I get we got a different winner, but there has been far more on track action at a dozen other races this year. Also we had a driver go wire to wire.

Reminder, the Japanese Grand prix begins at midnight central time, Saturday Night.

I will very likely just watch it at 8 am the next morning.

That was an awesome race if only to see Red Bull struggle and the four-way battle for the podium at the end!

Do we think Red Bull's struggles will continue?
What do we think about the Suzuka circuit, except we want to go there?
Do we think HAAS will be able to score another point this weekend or is this the type of track where our tires will be eaten to shite?

Can't imagine the promoters are going to last the whole duration of the contract.

Same with Vegas

Vegas is being put on by Liberty/F1 versus using an outside promotor.

Been seeing the videos of the utter destruction on the strip going on… hard to imagine they will make that much off those 3 days compared to how much they are losing/will lose from future tourism in the months prior to the race every year.

Bellagio fountains shut down, mirage valvano, sidewalks obstructed, etc… looks like a cluster

I think the main point that’s being missed is that backing up cars together destroys tires. That’s why it’s bad to attack over multiple laps and drivers usually lick and choose when they’re going to attack. Because if you’re within DRS range, your tires are getting fricked before too long.

Also great to see Sainz use Norris

I’ve got an extra set of tickets in section 103 for the Vegas Grand Prix if anyone wants them. They include the Wednesday night deal. Just asking for what I paid for them.
