Plenty that post here got into F1 because of DTS, myself included.
I started watching off and on in 2017 and after the first season of DTS, I started following it really closely. I personally love that it’s blowing up because that means the broadcasting quality will improve.
The only downside is tickets to the races are going up in price, but honestly, seeing the races live is something you only need to do once.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone gatekeeping F1, I’m just thrilled to have other people to talk about it with.

What I get a kick out of is they are screaming about employees leaving Ferrari and going to work at Haas.
What are they supposed to do? They had to reduce employees due to the budget. Ex Ferrari employees can't work for another F1 team? Yeah, try and do that and watch the lawsuits line up.
And a lot of RB employees went to AT for the same reason.
F1 is insanely incestuous top to bottom as you've pointed out... Yes, Ferrari built HAAS their own facility in Maranello... From my understanding it was originally planned as a Ferrari facility but the cost cap screwed that up... Yes Ferrari was using that as a way to keep their staff employed, albeit under the HAAS banner... But HAAS already had an office at their wind tunnel, so it's not like HAAS wasn't already around... and shite, it's not like HAAS isnt already 50% a Ferrari... they buy damn near every freaking part they can from them
As far as Merc (Toto) bitching, as fighting tigers already pointed out, it seems to have more to do with the Pink Mercedes bullshite from a few years ago and the old adage "Turnabout is fair play"... it's just sour grapes through and through
Let's be real, Toto and Horner (though he's not mentioned here) are masters at acting like 10 year olds in that respect
Bottom line, Ferrari can keep their guys working, HAAS gets a bump up in quality engineering and aero, Toto's always gonna bitch
Basically status quo for F1

In my very short time following the sport, it seems to me like everyone involved is ultra competitive to the point where they go down every possible avenue to gain an edge.

So I’m new to F1 and looking at the schedule I see there is a sprint this Saturday. So, I headed on over to the Google machine to see what it’s about. I found this and it’s a bit confusing.
Do they just retain the title of Pole Position? Is that why it’s in quotes? What’s the benefit?
quote:
Who gets Pole Position in F1 Sprint? Last year, the winner of Qualifying started first for F1 Sprint, and the winner of F1 Sprint started on Pole Position in the GP. Now, due to fan reaction to the title of 'Pole Position' being given to a driver who hadn't performed the single fastest lap around the circuit, arguably devaluing the term, during an F1 Sprint week a driver can hold Pole Position and not start the GP proper at the very front of the grid. Qualifying in first position will see a driver awarded Pole Position, and they will also start first in F1 Sprint. However, if another driver wins F1 Sprint, they will start P1 on the grid on Sunday, but the winner of Qualifying will retain 'Pole Position'.

Yes. Pole position should go to the person who starts on the pole for the race. Which is usually the fastest person, but not always.
However, because of the show, F1 has managed to frick it all up.
So now, you can start dead last, but still be given the pole position stat (title). Whereas, if you are fastest, but have to start dead last due to a penalty then you don't get the pole position stat.
It is stupidity that has been brought on by the sprint race.

They still start on the pole for the sprint race, so qualifying does mean something.
It's kinda dumb. About as dumb as the Daytona tradition of only the front row being set by Q times, with the rest of the field set by qualifying race results.

I don’t necessarily hate the sprint race concept.
Makes it interesting for something to be on Friday (qualify), Saturday (sprint), and Sunday (Grand Prix).
Although I do not like that the person who wins qualifying might not start at front of the grid Sunday.
Suppose if they keep developing this they could have something.
One interesting thing I heard from Will Buxton on missed apex was to make the sprint race reverse order from qualifying. Still award the points the same 8 for first on downwards. That way whoever qualifies fastest Friday still starts on Sunday up front.
But that could make for some real interesting sprint races for the mid tier teams in the constructors cup.

Normal qualifying is so cool. I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish with the sprint race.

This is like turning on sprkinlers to have wet races.
It feels so cheap and undermines the GP.

I don't mind the sprint race itself. I don't like the fact it removes 2 hours of practice from the teams.
Basically if they don't have the setup right off the simulator, they are screwed all weekend.

European F1 fans have this obsession with this stupid reverse grid crap. Hopefully it never happens at any level and I hope the sprint is done after this year completely.

Money. That is it. Viewership is up on Friday’s when there are sprint races.
