Supposedly the long range forecast is showing rain all three days.

Drag engines commonly go well beyond the piston speeds seen in F1 engines but they don't have much longevity generally.
Indeed, Top Fuel engines are the ultimate disposable engine. If I did the calc right their piston speed approaches 7,000 fps.
4.25x9500/6= ~6,729 fps
But they only have to survive about 900 revolutions under load and a fair number never make it that far. The fact they run near 60 degrees of spark advance blows my mind especially given the fast-moving faster flame speed in an engine at over 4 bar boost and in methane-based fuel. I assume most of that is due to the nitrogen-rich mix and the fact they are running massively rich most of the time. IIRC correctly the 90% nitro fuel they run in Top Fuel engines has a stoichiometric ratio of down around 2:1 theoretically but they run them down at .5:1, while joking that is damn near hydrolocking the engine. At .5:1 that means assuming 100% VE you could burn ~30 times the amount of nitromethane in a combustion cycle vs gas at 14.7:1.
Engines are fascinating creatures.

Some Ferrari insider info
Italian is apparently difficult to translate to English as there are always some odd phrases, but some interesting info here.
Notably, beyond aero upgrades, Ferrari is also working on a new rear suspension to combat the porpoising. Which would mean Haas is also getting a new rear suspension at some point.
A couple months ago I found it interesting that the regs allowed the entire suspension system to be shared between teams while anything aero they have to have their own IP. I took that to mean that suspension is basically understood to the point no team is going to get an advantage simply through geometry. The ground effects and the additional impact it has on suspension design may have thrown a wrench in that thought process.
It can also be noted that Alfa designs their own transmission case, while using Ferrari internals, which effects suspension design (They have their own rear suspension) and they do not have much issue with porpoising.
I'm guessing the trick is to design a rear suspension that doesn't negatively effect rear grip while controlling the bouncing. Ferrari already has a rising rate design reportedly, and is already at the top of the lap charts so while there may be speed in eliminating the bouncing their current design works very well outside that speed zone.

You know "the most interesting man in the world" commercials? They were based on Obtuse.

The only way you know about Young's Modulus is of you are a Mechanical Engineer or a Civil Engineer. My guess is you have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, given everything else you know about automobiles. Am I right?

I think he has multiple degrees.

Not really.

For you downvoters, I'm not a ME or CE and I know what it is.
As for the race in Miami, certain residents are trying to shut it down. Nothing like waiting til the last minute.

They've been fighting it hard since it was announced. I thought it was settled, but apparently not. They'd have really hated pre-turbo 6 cars.

Yeah, these are nothing for noise compared to a V10 singing at almost 20 grand.

I’m guessing someone didn’t get paid off.

Imola's neighbors aren't deaf.
Not to mention Monaco or any of the other street circuits.
These people are as much as 2.5 miles away screaming they'll be deafened.
A quick google search of Miami Gardens explained a good bit.

Sam Dubbin, a lawyer representing the Miami Gardens residents, said that would be an unreasonable request. And he told the judge he has“little doubt we have residents living close enough to the stadium where the noise level would threaten hearing loss.”
What a crock of shite, they aren't concerned about hearing loss, they're just trying to shake the event down for some cash to go away.
When we went to COTA I was quite surprised how quiet the F1 cars where, the smaller series cars(W Series and F4) were louder but no where near loud enough to cause any issues.

I don't know about hearing loss, but I understand the sentiment. When I was looking at property to build outside of Birmingham, there was no way in hell that I was buying anywhere close to Barber Motorsports Park. It would be a pain in the arse to hear that noise over and over. And now another one of the cities in the area is trying to sneak through a test track in a really residential area and neighbors would be stupid not to try to stop it.
Anyway, the current chance of rain on Sunday is 60% and a little lower Saturday.

So I'm a newb to following it fully this year. Held off on following it fully last year because I wanted to avoid spoilers from Drive to Survive. Avoided posting in here because I figured the people that got into it because of the show got hated on, but O well. Wish I would have been following this sport sooner because I am loving it.
So many questions/opinions though. I think the thing I'm most happy about this year is knowing that Mazepin is not longer driving. Could not stand that little entitled shite.
