Garbage first ballot class. Induct Bonds, Clemens, and Schilling already.

Never understood how Ozzie Smith gets elected on first ballot with a very high vote percentage but Omar Vizquel can't sniff the HOF.

They were about the same offensively and while Ozzie was a better defensively, Omar is a clear choice for #2 at the most important defensive position.

He should be in.

Actually it isn’t but as I said it’s my opinion. We’re voting on Hall of Fame not y’all if very good or hall of greatness

How about the fact that Smith was literally twice the player Vizquel was? Ozzie had 77 career WAR while Omar had 45 career WAR. Ozzie had an eight year span (1985-1992) when he was an above league average hitter with a 104 wRC+. Omar had one season during his entire career with a 104 wRC+ or higher. Ozzie was a far better hitter, defender, baserunner, and overall ballplayer than Vizquel was.

Fame isn't literal

5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.

Scot Rolen

That cheap shite by Arizona player in Playoffs robbed him of having a great ending to his career. Never able to overcome that shoulder injury and be 100%.

He is 100% a HOF

yea, their numbers look similar, but when you consider the era in which they played, ozzie's offensive numbers look better.

I just spent 5 minutes typing up a post that explained this and when I hit submit my browser went haywire.

ETA: And Scott Rolen is absolutely a Hall of Famer. Rolen is probably top 5 ever at 3rd base. He's up there with Brooks Robinson defensively. Just because a large part of his career overlapped with another HOF 3B doesn't diminish what he did.

I wonder if Bonds and Clemens have hit their glass ceilings in terms of percentage... they were pretty polarizing

I take it if you play 10 years you get on the ballot?

How many billions to 1 is Skip Schumaker's odds?

but hey play in the majors for any time at all and you are an elite human, much less play 11 years

This is why I don't like advanced analytical stats. They spit out results - or provide methods of distortion - that don't make sense.

I agree Ozzie was better. But not twice as good. I watched both of them play quite a bit, apart from Ozzie's first few years. They were very similar.

I guess the truth is Ozzie played in a small ball era where his skills were more valuable whereas Omar played in the steroid era.

They have been pretty flat for a few years. No one was leaving them off the ballot except for steroid concerns. I think they'll have to get in on the veteran's committee.

more or less, its a nice nod to guys who were in the show for a while. Like you mentioned, 10 years in the majors is a feat in and of itself.

They serve as a way of providing a non-biased view of data. If the data says one player is 10% better than another, yea, there is room for debate and shouldn't be taken as gospel. But when it says one player is 100% better, something is there.

Also a lot of what we are saying is just comparing their offensive stats to their peers, no distortion there, its simple math.

Maybe not first ballot but Buehrle should get in. World Series champ, win and a save in the series. Perfect game and a no hitter. 4 Gold Gloves

I hope you're right since he's one of my favorite White Sox players, but I highly doubt he ever makes it on a ballot.

That said, he was well-liked by the media and other players. The Reinsdorfs love him, and Jerry still wields influence in baseball circles. The HOF shouldn't be a popularity contest, but it's possible a committee votes him in at some point down the road, like Harold Baines.

I loved Craig Biggio but I never thought he was the best 2B. He did stick around for 20 seasons and collected 3,060 hits and like 600 doubles. He probably could have had an extra 75 hits except for getting on by HBP a ton.

Let the steroids players in, they didn’t test or care back then, I’d do the same. My ballot would be Sosa, bonds, Clemens, sheffield, schilling
