While I thought Sagan's infraction was not particularly bad (there was 7/8ths of a door open) I knew that they would relegate him seeing how they have applied the rules this year. I do think it is a shame since it reduces the drama in the points classification.
A hilly stage tomorrow with a nice little tilt uphill in the last km. Then Friday has the most climbing of a stage this year (over 4400 meters) with a nice 15% grade to the finish line at the top of the Col de Nerrone. There could be some serious fireworks.

OP updated with results, links and commentary.
Sagan relegated for aggressively finishing a sprint stage by aggressively sprinting in a sprint stage with 3 other riders aggressively sprinting. Also a question if he was going to hit the barrier. Interdasting decisions by the powers that be this tour on some household names. They literally killed JA's GC hopes if he had any..will this be the end of PS's Green Jersey run due to them as well? TBD...

No spoilers in the thread title, please. Put whatever you want in the OP.
Not sure if I'm the only one that feels this way.

It's a mad house in here, no hard feelings. Feel free to give some slight hints if you want, the "Sagan relegated" part was a bit much for me though.

Great ride by Hirschi, well deserved win. Sagan will get some points back there so this green jersey competition isn't over.

Sunweb executed the finish very well.

7 categorized climbs tomorrow.
I'm ready for the GC competition to get blown up in the Alps.

Is Madeline tomorrow or Saturday?
One time I would love to see a ITT or TTT on the Koppenberg then stage 2 have the Cobles to Roubaix the include the following
Mont du Chant
Alpe d'Huez
Mount Ventoux
Madeline
Why not just kill every rider and say if you win this TDF you deserve it. Oh and end a stage in the Vincess Velodrome for the hell of it, actually use the track to end the stage.

Oh okay, thanks I forgot it was stage 17/18.
Did you like my Mountain stages, cobbles, and velodrome idea? It would make for must watch TV if they did that.

Am I smoking crack but doesn't the ITT have a Cat 1 mountain to finish it this year? So you may not want traditional time trial bike for the stage?
Posted on 9/10/20 at 12:50 pm to sms151t
They may have a lightweight climbing bike waiting for them at that climb.
Posted on 9/10/20 at 1:42 pm to Ingeniero
You think they are going to hop off a bike in a ITT?
Posted on 9/10/20 at 3:14 pm to sms151t
It's possible. Froome did it in the 2013 tour. A single cat 1 climb may not be reason enough for a switch, but we'll see.

yes, it happens quite a bit in time trials with steep finishes

I figured he would be when I saw it. Its impressive what he did and I enjoyed watching it, but he also impeded the other rider. Glad Hirschi got a win today, now its time to get this race going!

I think we will see far less of that than in the past for 3 reasons:
1. Even TT bikes are fairly easy to get down to the 6.8kg minimum
2. While still contentious rotational weight of the wheels is being shown to be a non-issue. This one is tough for me mentally since I spent over 30 years having rotational weight being rammed down my throat from every source.
3. It is completely acceptable and "normal" now to have very large cogs in the rear. They also ride the wide range cassettes more now and are used to not having all the small gear differences. This is certainly helped by having 11 or 12-speed cassettes. When I first started racing you would be ridiculed with anything larger than a 25t cog and that was Cat 5 in the Western NC mountains AND we were all running 42t inner rings.
