Geometry of a TT bike isn't great for climbing regardless of weight and gearing.

That is an opinion I would have parroted just 2-3 years ago but the data is showing otherwise.
On a short moderate climb (for the pros) like the La Planche des Belles Filles TT bikes have been shown to be faster, by a significant margin even over aero road frames with the same wheels and tires even if the road bike is lighter. The only place a "climbing bike" might be faster is the last short 20% grade at the very end of the climb.
The data collected over the last few years is blowing up a ton of old myths such as rotational weight. That being said a lot of World Tour riders can't seem to accept it, even as I sit here and extol the virtues of aero I still don't race on very deep-section wheels with TL tires and low pressures. My brain still thinks I am faster on a more conventional bike and sometimes that is more important than facts derived from data.

I don't know much about cycling but I love the TdF. I just want to say jumbo visma needs different jerseys. They're way too yellow. I hate it. I know they said on the broadcast the committee agreed to them because they have enough black in them, but I disagree.

Has anyone worn Hurraches to ride a stationary? I can’t buy a real bike as I don’t think will use it

Not sure how many other parts/tech nerds there are in the thread but I think I have cracked Marc Hirschi's descending prowess. I noticed something today and went back and checked pictures from the descent and verified he is running XTR rotors vs Dura Ace rotors.
Note this post is mainly in jest, just an interesting equipment choice that obviously works.

What's the data source?

I globbed onto a group of young guys today and I swear they were all riding 30mm tires. At first I thought they were on cross bikes.

I don't make enough to be a gear nerd I have and always will be a runner first so I got sticker shock when I got into cycling.

Honestly, I am not going to track down 50 links but if you follow cycling tech even remotely it is becoming clear aero is king in just about every situation as long as you go fast enough which the pros obviously due.
I did go back through my YT history and here is a video that is pretty on point but every semi-scientific test I have seen says the same thing.
YT
The last few years have literally blown up most of the "what is faster" ideas of yesterday.

Somewhere in the parts bin I have a set of clinchers from the early 90s with 19mm tires on them. The new recipe for the fastest wheels are hookless tubeless rims with about a 50mm depth with 27-30mm width paired with a 25-26mm front tire and a 25-28mm rear tire running 80psi front and 60 psi rear for a 170lb rider less for a lighter one.

Elite level bike prices have shot up at a nearly unbelievable rate over the last decade. The tech also evolves so fast now you only have an elite bike for 1-2 seasons max. A top-end frame with a top-level electronic groupset and decent wheels will run you $10k+ these days. That being said NONE of that matters unless you are racing AND you are competitive. I can lose just as easily on a $2k bike as I can on a $20k hyper bike at least on the $2K bike nobody calls me a Fred or a dentist.
The interesting thing with cycling is if you are OK with Chinese made goods the growth of the mid-priced Chinese B2C companies is starting to take off particularly with carbon parts. You can get well-made carbon wheelsets for 700-1300 bucks that match or beat wheelsets costing 4-5 times as much from companies like Zipp, Enve, Lightweight, Knight, Campy, HED, and etc. You are seeing the same with integrated stems and bars and framesets as well. The NDT and destructive testing of these show many are at or better quality than some of the big names and have real warranties too, unlike the cheap Ali stuff that is purely hit or miss, mainly miss. The massive amount of testing being done and documented today is leaving the big names fewer and fewer places to hide.
All that being said even if one races a ~$2k bike with Shimano 105 and maybe some $700 Light Bicycle wheels is going to make you competitive if you have the motor. But if you are up against dudes with the same motor and they are on hyper bikes they are going to win*, just like in most things in life. If you are running in Alphafly or Vaporfly shoes you are gonna beat the guy beside you in $30 running shoes if you have the same motor.
*assuming you are both tactical equals as well

With 100 miles left they are already shattering the peloton.
4400 meters of climbing is gonna break a lot of folks if the tempo stays anything like this high.

I'm the same. I can't wrap my head around a low pressure tubeless 28mm being faster than a 22 tubular. I know surface plays a huge part but still. We've been ingrained in the days of 22mm high pressure equals less rolling resistance, thus faster.

I may have to get a new TT bike to have the clearance for this.
