With two triple crowns in 4 years I guess horse racing would rather make the news with a DQ than a triple crown winner because they aren’t getting a triple crown this year.

Folks, what you are missing is why the rule is in place.
Jockeys get killed or maimed and horses get destroyed if you don't enforce the rules.
As to why this has not happened before, mostly the video and media has gotten so much better in the past few years with HD and such that it makes reviews that much better.
The call, while displeasing to the audience, is correct and it took real balls to make said call in such a high profile race.
