Hi Everyone
65 year old guy here just trying to find something part time in the Baton Rouge area. I’m retired on Social Security and between my wife’s retirement from LSU and my social security money we are making things work with our monthly income. I’m am still in great shape and I want to work. I’ve worked mainly as a field service technician in various roles throughout the years and ran hot shot for a while.
Jut looking for something part time to help out the fam as prices keep rising
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I’ve got an older man that cuts our grass. He does like a handful of yards just for the hell of it.

How about a local hardware store? I feel like that would be a pretty low stress but enjoyable gig.

An in-law relative of mine worked at the meat counter at local bougie grocer after he retired. Bonus is you sometimes get to take home good quality meat for free or very cheaply.

I've been consulting (phone based) with GLG.
I looked around on their site. They pull in people with real hands-on experience too. Field service, equipment work, logistics, etc. Clients love hearing from folks who’ve actually done the job. It’s not steady work, but you can snag a couple calls here and there at like $100–$150/hr. Easy side money and totally flexible. If you want to try it.
Look at teaching or consulting with the local junior colleges or tech programs. They’re always looking for people who’ve actually done the work — HVAC, diesel, logistics, electrical, maintenance, all that stuff. Even adjunct gigs can pay decent for part-time.
And, don't laugh...
I'm active in working out, taking classes, Rotary, nonprofit work etc. So the days just whiz by. BUT..to get a little extra cash, and just to do something different from being in the healthcare industry for 40+ years, I've been looking into dog sitting! Actually staying at a friends' home for 3 weeks while they're in Europe. Doing it for free of course, but know someone that's busier than she can be and wants to offload clients. She makes $75/day for 3 visits to walk, feed pets etc. People willing to stay overnight make even more.

Go work at Publix and buy as much of their private stock as you are allowed.

I'm in the same boat except I haven't retired yet. I've got an offer waiting at a farm here mainly driving a fuel truck and other odd jobs my back can handle. I keep talking myself out of retiring yet. I've got good insurance at work. If I quit I'll have 5000ish$ for part B and Supp. plus no dental or vision. My wife just retired. She's 65 and I'm 66.

sign up on rover, set up your page, accept drop ins only (no boarding). 25 bucks a drop in, typically 2x a day. Easy money if you schedule correctly and keep your service area small. No pit bulls, akitas, etc…be clear on that. Before you accept a client go meet the dog(s) and the owners.

I knew a retired guy that picked up and delivered medical specimens. Companies like Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics do this and are usually hiring on a continuous basis.

This. As long as the money he earns is not needed, it is a good way to get yuge returns.

Why retire if now you want to go take a part time job that would be perfect for a young man needing an entry level position to gain work experience?
Boomers have completely normalized this for some reason. Guess it’s one last ‘frick you’ to the youth on their way out.

Gave up one job to someone when retiring, no?
Don’t think OP is working 2 jobs.
Bitching does not require math?

My dad is a delivery driver for Honeybaked Hams. I think he gets $15/hour, ham or turkey at the holidays and the boss offers him a sandwich pretty much every time he's on the clock. Last week, they overmade for a catering order and they gave him the extras 5 sandwiches. Not a bad fringe benefit.
It's not every day, but he probably works 10-15 hours a week. He used to deliver for Nothing Bundt Cakes, too, but they shifted all their deliveries to DoorDash.
Check with the dealerships to see if they need a courtesy car driver or Enterprise to shuttle cars from one agency to another. These are the kind of jobs I'd like to pursue when I retire.

Transporting rentals for Enterprise Rent A Car. You ride in a 15 passenger van to go to a rental branch and drive the cars to be moved.
Lots of vets and retirees do it.

Do any golf courses around you have a group of older guys doing maintenance or marshalling?
A lot of the RTJ Trail courses in Alabama have older retired men, not necessarily riding mowers all the time, but doing the keep the course pretty work… Filling divots, fixing pitch marks, making sure bunkers are raked, etc. or making sure things are flowing on course.
Good way to make a little extra money and stay active, while not having to deal with too much riff raff.
Doing small deliveries and helping out around a seed and chemical retailer would be good work too.

quote:your new "respectable conservative business man" persona is humorous, considering your background, on the OT but its tiresome here. you've got a lot of fricking nerve making value judgements on anyone or anything.

glad things have worked out for you, but maybe just be thankful for your turn of circumstances and quit criticizing people?

Okay, I've read your weepy shite a few times but with this post it has become clear you're just f'n with everybody. You're parodying the stereotypical neckbeard living in mom's basement that'll be voting for communists in November - right?
Well done.
I think you've got quite a few around this site fooled.

I’d want something easy or that I enjoy. Working at an outdoor shop, gun store or high end car dealership driving people home and picking them up would be cool.
