There are a lot of houses for sale in Hickory Ridge (off coursey)...around 150-210k or maybe less. Also check out West Baton Rouge Parish (Port Allen, Brusly, Addis)...lots of new smaller houses and it is only 5-10 mins from BR.

I'm not really offended by it, but I'll just point out that the continued prevalence of this type of attitude is one of the chief reasons BR is basically fricked.

I tend to agree with this. BR is one of the most sprawled out cities in the country and it's getting moreso all the time.

Apparently a large percentage of Baton Rouge residents live in abject terror of the thought that a black person might move nearby. To avoid this they have all decided to move to Livingston Parish and contentedly sit in nightmare traffic for 45 minutes in each direction every day.

I love this comment. Maybe to get to Walker. It take me 25 minutes each way to and from work. Working near downtown, it will take you just as long to get to Bluebonnet area, highland, coursey, harrels ferry, etc..

Every two months I have a 6pm meeting in Denham Springs about 2 miles north of I-12 on Range.

I leave my office at 5pm from Downtown.

I have never made it in the door to the meeting before 5:40. Usually, I'm there around 5:50.

I am sure I may offend some here, but these 2 areas, IMO are not good places to live anymore

My brother in law sold his house in Sherwood Forrest right after Katrina and moved to Prairieville. He could see that the neighborhood was being replace and not in a good way. Nice big houses with decent lots but the age was taking away from prices. Sold his 3k square foot living area house for $180k. And paid $260k for a 2500 square foot house in Prairieville.

If you have school-age kids, you do not want them in EBR Public schools. This is a big reason why folks are moving to Livingston and Ascension Parishes. Private school tuition is very expensive.

BR is becoming like a mini-Houston. Without the loops of course. Denham=Katy. Just a lot smaller.

Uhh not really. There are plenty of nice, upscale neighborhoods close to downtown Houston. And several very good public schools close to downtown as well. Can't say the same for BR.

True, I never really think about public schools though as I don't have kids and mine will be in Catholic Schools no matter the quality of the public institution.

How many young couples and families live there and send their kids to nearby public schools?

I would say most are pretty smart then. I wouldnt say its at all racist when you consider its YOUR FAMILY to raise and protect and make sure they get a quality education. 45 min to live in Livingston and have a place where you can raise a family in safety and let them go to a decent school is not exactly a bad decision no matter how unPC it may be.
