Where in New Orleans can you get a quality public school education over St Tammany?
I know it's hard to keep your eye on the ball, the way you keep juggling it, but I'm talking property values (in response to your explicit point on that front).

I'm guessing BRHS, Woodlawn, and UHigh are dogshit now??

Now add another 6-8K a year PER CHILD
I don't know of a Catholic elementary school in BR that is $6,000 a year. Better yet, I know there are ones here that are half that.

But, yeah, this is definitely true.

Maybe not elementary, but a child's education doesn't end there. It's only the beginning.
A quick search found:
New Students Returning Students
Registration (non-refundable) $550 $450
Tuition $6,875 $6,875
Total $7,425 $7,325
at Catholic High School

I understand. A cost well worth it, IMO.

Well Im white so I know any kid I have wont be getting into one of the magnet schools here. Im not an LSU faculty member so that rules our Uhigh.. And from what I hear Woodlawn is horrible.
I pulled up CHBR which is close to 8k a year and figured that 6-8 would be the norm.. I know I went to a catholic school from 6-12th grade and my tuition was at 3k on the elementary side and 7K on the HS side.

Which explains why when I go officiate sports at BRHS the team is at least half white.

My boss's kid goes there. He moved here from the midwest with no connections.

Could be, I figured it was safe for some of these posters because its in the white neighborhood.

Don't bother. We're better off in BR without people like catman spreading their fears and false beliefs.

Cause that tells the whole story of how someone gets into school there..
I know the people in the admissions office you are not getting in there unless you are a minority (non asian) without knowing someone or sitting on a long arse waiting list.
Not sure about UHigh but I havent heard of just anyone getting in there before that wasnt affiliated with LSU. Hell a lot of people complained when Jindal sent his kids there because he didnt have anything to do with the school.
Posted on 6/18/09 at 1:56 pm to Catman88
You don't have to be affiliated with LSU to go to UHigh...I can tell you that much.
The stink with Jindal's kids is that they just circumvented the actual process.
Whatever, you aren't going to change my mind and neither am I with you...

yea the schools system in BR is MUCH better than that of Zachary, Central or Livingston parish.. Move along.. Nothing to see here
Its definitly a wiser investment to buy a 149K home in BR and pay another say 60K per kid on schools to get basically the same education they could otherwise get for free. Not to mention 149 in the surrounding parishes will get you a much nicer home.
But the traffic (which will be better by the time I have kids) is the reason to ignore logic.

If you are sending your kids to a Catholic school because you want them to have a catholic education then I cant fault you and you will do it anyways so it doesnt affect your bottom line either.. But its a big deal to the majority of people. In BR I would guess for every person sending thier kids to a catholic school for a catholic education there are 3 people sending their kid to the same school to escape the horrible school system.. Same goes for New Orleans.

This is the case for me so I'm willing to sacrifice the extras. Some people, are not.

Now we're approaching truly delusional pipe dream territory.

you're assuming that they would be equal in value

Thats too hard to say without looking at individual schools. I know I went to schools in a bad system a school in a good system and catholic schools and for the most part the education in the good system and the catholic schools I went to were both good quality. Hell I even went to LSU (public) and Washington University (private)
For the most part a good school system can at the very least allow the parents to push their kids and have the exact same level of education than if they paid for it. Going to Washington didnt make me any smarter than when I went to LSU.

Well the drive time will improve, provided that the increase in the population base of Ascension and Livingston does not outpace the improvements.
