I have no idea how far this thing is going to fall.

"Spirit Airlines could shut down as soon as Saturday"

Not a horse I'd want to hitch my wagon to.

Not even a ghost of a chance.

Thought I saw a tweet earlier with Trump saying he would be announcing something regarding Spirit this afternoon
Better not bail them out. The Biden admin fricked up by blocking their merger with Jet Blue a few years back.

Wasn’t there some scammer saying he was gonna buy them and base them out of MSY?

I was charged for deep breaths when I flew Spirit. Shallow breaths, thankfully, were included in the price.
My hope for Spirit ended then.

They’re horribly mismanaged and deserve to fail
Breeze is low cost and they manage to succeed
Hearing trump try to make a case for a government bailout is incredibly disappointing. No way the government should serve as a backstop for poorly run business.
Bailing out failures with tax payer money is liberal nonsense and the fact that he has already done it with US steel and Intel is beyond disappointing
I didn’t vote for that

Airline companies are historically one of the worst investments anyone can make.
Richard Branson said, “I can tell you how to become a millionaire. Be a billionaire, and then buy an airline. In a short time, you will be a millionaire.”
Warren Buffett said if Wilbur and Orville would have shot each other, it would have spared a great deal of capital.

Supposedly the last flight to land was going to be in New Orleans.
I’m sure are there airlines will be happy to scoop in and by their fleet at a discount.

Spirit has already sold off most of the airplanes it owned. Most of their airplanes were leased. Mostly Airbus a320s limits their appeal since most of the other discount airlines are Boeing 737 only

The problem is you can’t build any lasting competitive advantage and thus are always in a commodified race to the bottom (this applies to many of the transportation industries).
Most of the money is made on business-class, but you can’t get too exorbitant with those prices either since the rise of private jets.

Thats just Alaska and Southwest.
Frontier operates the exact same fleet as Spirit, seating configuration very similar too
But the big 3 all operate A320 class aircraft (Delta, American, United). So does Jetblue. Air Canada, Allegiant as well. I know some of those arent discount but certainly plenty of willing buyers for sure locally. Volaris and Viva down in MExico operate A320s too.
A320 class is now more popular than the 737 class thanks to all the issues with the Max.

never really had any issues with spirit to be honest and their big seat deal was the best value in the industry. I still dont undertsand why they werent allowed to co,bine with jet blue... but I am sure it involved some criminal shite.

Same here honestly. Our parents are near Tampa (we are in ATL) and for a while Spirit had a few flights a day back and forth from each city. I could score big front seats on Spirit for still way less than flying basic economy with Delta. For a 1 hour flight easy decision each time. Over the last couple years they dropped those routes though, wife flies frontier mostly back and forth now as she needs to and routinely scores like $30-$50 deals each way on that.
It obviously was not some fully featured airline but for short hops for us it always made sense and saved a ton of money. The aircraft were all relatively new as well, and more comfortable overall than 737's (wider fuselage, wider seats).
Obviously they will always be known for the lowest of lifeforms that did fly with them, but I never personally encountered that flying them a few times in the past 7-8 years.
