The direct financial cost of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to the U.S. government is estimated at $21.7 billion, according to figures from a Senate investigation. Beyond direct overhead, broader independent economic analyses estimate that the true operational cost of DOGE's sweeping cuts, disruption, and employee handling could reach $135 billion.

The leases cut and referenced on DOGE’s website “actually summed to $53.5 million” in savings, the report found. Of the 264 leases, about 108 were already in the termination process before DOGE was formed after Trump began his second term as presiden

he GAO said it found multiple “issues limiting the transparency and reliability of these reported savings.” Including additional categories beyond contracts, grants, and leases, DOGE tallied $215 billion in cuts, the GAO said.
Hard to believe how bad it went

I want my DOGE refund check for the theft of my tax dollars

Reads like a lot of guesstimating to me. Also, tough to hire someone to do a job and then pretty much prevent them from doing their jobs. That is what happened with DOGE.

GAO is an official govt organization that looks for fraud and waste. They should have access to all the records... Assuming the admin does not block the own govt from getting access to the records

CNBC. I am sure it's an objective appraisal.
I am sure there was no mention that the identified cuts were not codified and most were actually renewed via CRs

Do you really trust the media?
DOGE was an org of a bunch of college kids. Do you really think they ran up a $21 billion tab without any oversight?

Right…
Notice how when DOGE uncovered the billions in USAID flowing out the back door to all of those NGOs they got pushed to back?
It took two weeks for a bunch of nerds with AI to start uncovering all kinds of shite. And then it got really quiet….Elon left…and never heard a peep out of them again.

Almost everything Trump has done over two terms has been half-assed. That should be clear by now.

So all previous administrations were blocking the GAO from looking into USAID? Or did the GAO consider the funding of diversity and inclusion programs in Serbia, Ireland, Iraq, etc. to not be fraud nor waste?

I call bullshite.
If this was close to being true, it would be on every news channel 24/7.
No way they let this slide

You're headline is misleading as hell.
Where did the 21B figure come from? It's not in the article. Did you just make it up?
I know a lot of the cuts were never codified by Congress and the money that was identified as a cut was never actually eliminated from the budget. Court decisions forced job cuts to be rescinded.
However, the cuts from USAID alone were in the 10's of billions.
If we could actually cut waste and people would stop defending that shite, DOGE could be a great thing. However, too many people feel like the biggest threat to our country is budget cuts, even though it is obvious that we oculd save 100's billions if we would get serious about fraud and corruption.

Yep. It was funny when it all went down because people against it were freaking out because they thought DOGE was just going to be able to cancel whatever they wanted. BIL was adamant that we were never going to be able to recover from just the layoffs that occured when they first started
