They just paid them for the rest of the fiscal year. That money was already allocated so no additional money was used. There were no new hires behind the DRP recipients that fiscal year

This is still my biggest issue. Why do this? Why not hire a professional external auditor (Big 4 or others) with actual domain experience of performing audits.

But that wasn’t allowed to happen because DC grifters were able to drum up enough public opposition from the rubes (Musk has access to protecting information!) to get it shut down.
I mean, where were the auditors, inspectors general and GAO on these ridiculous Medicaid numbers that are being uncovered now? Did they not think it odd that LA County accounted for what, 90% of all hospice reimbursements in the US?
How much of our current deficit is due to this shite fining in for God knows how long.

Yes external auditors use AI
Those dudes didn't do anything special. Hire a company with actual experience doing that; pay them a % of savings so they are incentivized but do it in a methodical way by experts so people who want to protect the status quo can't point to any flaws, procedural errors, or amateur mistakes to discredit the results.
