Does reading this board make anyone else feel poor?
Posted by Zachary

Asking for a friend, not for myself, of course.

I don't feel poor, as I know I'm better off than the average American, but it definitely lets me know I'm not balling either.

Sometimes. But I take a lot of it as hope. I ain’t gonna be down forever.
And my family and I do well. But not Money Talk board well.
Yet.

You do realize 75%+ of the statements on here are probably inflated somewhat. Sure there’s probably a wide range of ballers and non-ballers on her, but really, how many millionaires are sitting on TD all day. None, they’re out making more money

If you ever feel that way, click this LINK, enter your income and see how much better off you are than the norm.
Here’s one for net worth: LINK
I’m satisfied being at a percentile much higher than any standardized test ever reported. Being in the top 5% by the time I retire is good enough for me.

All about your mindset, mine drives me crazy because of how lofty my financial and life goals are.
I will say I am poor until I am grossing 350k personally, did I mention I hate working for people.

I don't know how you stay in character 247 but it is something.

It's not just this board, it's real life.
It seems like everyone is either incredibly debt happy, or just makes way more than we do.
However, per statistics online we are well into the top 10% of household incomes so I don't know what the answer is.

I feel you, I live in one of the highest income area in the state. This whole year I have just watched the number of 100k+ suv and trucks grow in our son's car line. A lot showing up pulling 150k+ boats. All living in 400k+ homes. Most closer to 600k+.
Only thing we are rocking is no bills and cash

I don't feel poor. I grew up poor, make damn good money with a good retirement, so when I want something I buy it. I want my kids to have shite I didn't have the luxury of having, so if they have the desire to do/learn something, I pay for lessons. I could save that money and invest it or throw in a savings but I can't take my money with me to my grave.
That's why I've gone against all logic and decided to get an inground pool. Because I want to enjoy my backyard with my family and not depend on friends to invite me over to get sunburnt.

Just work on bettering you and things generally fall into place. Don't play the comparison game, it's impossible to win.

I think a lot of it is this. I'm not the highest earner in my area, by far. But comparing my spending to that of those I know are generally +/- $10k of my annual income, and I'm living waaaaay below their standards. House, car, travel, entertainment budget - all of mine is significantly less than theirs. But I'm happy, I splurge on stuff that matters to me, but even that just isn't very expensive.
There is only one family in my friend group I am really "jealous" of their lifestyle and know they can afford it. But that guy lost both of his parents before he turned 40 and he's running the successful family business they left him. He remembers when the family was poor and the business was just getting started, so he's (mostly) humble. Plus I wouldn't trade the lifestyle for the extra years I've had with my parents.

Glad to know it's not just me. We have a house note that could be alot higher and still affordable. My truck has been paid for. Her car and student loans oh and a 2nd kid about to start daycare are the only other big bills besides house note. Credit cards we use sometimes but pay them off fast. Yet we feel like ppl who make alot less then us seem to always have more and always going on vacations.
I just want to ask them like how much do y'all have saved up ? How far are y'all in debt ?
They must be living paycheck to paycheck or almost.
I'm 90% in earnings and she is 50% if I average them and do it in that calculator we are 75% together.
All a state of mind..
Comfortable bed, toilet that flushes, warm shower, car that starts, and health puts you ahead of a significant portion of the global population..
It was nice being born in America which I had nothing to do with…Americans are born on third base already .
