Was a student in 1996, sitting in the stands for that GA Tech game. One day that I'll never forget. That whole season was so much fun.

Actually, the hidden ball attempt wasn't successful. It was simply a bad, bad call. DJ got back when the tag was at least a foot away. Ump got caught by the play, too, and just decided to call him out because he wasn't paying attention. He had to make that call and got too nervous. Again, just a bad call. The crowd being so amped up from that and few other bad calls gave the rally so much more energy.

Baylor in game 3 of the Super Regionals in ‘03. Kicked off by, I think Matt Heath, hitting a grand slam.

ETA
Apologies all. It was Clay Harris who hit it. Not sure why I was thinking Matt Heath

We were down 7-8 runs against OM in the early 90’s I think and came back in 8th and 9th

Best inning yes, but it was the 7th inning, not the 8th. And Ga Tech had not taken the lead. The had narrowed a big lead to only 3 runs, but LSU still led before The Inning.

Easy answer for me especially since I was there in person. The 1996 Regional Final against Georgia Tech. It was the game that vaulted us in to the CWS in the Warren Morris year. The Old Box at its best.

I think they got us with some bullshite hidden ball trick

It’s not a bullshite trick when we do it, and it’s not when they do it, either. Pay attention, and compete. If you’re not paying attention you deserve to get erased.

It was bullshite because it didn’t actually work. We got back safe and they acted like cock suckers about it and the retard ump didn’t pay attention. That is the problem, it was a bush league stunt by a baby back bitch coach.

That’s right. That hidden ball trick call was blown by the ump and would have been easily overturned had there been replay back then.

It is bull shite. Its bush league.

But I was referring to the fact that DJ was clearly safe and the ump just blew the call.

But go ahead and keep defending it and not understanding what was being said.

Sorry to slightly veer off topic - Crews’ home run in the 9th inning just after that humongous inning andbannouncers said “can you believe they’ve done all this without Crews?!” was just insanely satisfying

LSU’s 6 run first inning in the 1997 CWS championship game set the tone for that game.

9th inning vs Rice in the 2008 CWS was pretty good.

This is correct and I noted as much in the OP. Much appreciated.

Looking at the line score the "(18)" in parentheses threw me off.

He was clearly safe but half the trick of a hidden ball trick is selling the call because usually the Ump wont be paying attention to what’s going on where he doesn’t think the ball is. Total loser play but they sold it well which is what you have to do

When the ump sees one guy running off the field like he got the out and the other guy with a wtf look on his face he’s probably going to give him the call. He’s an idiot for making a call he didn’t see but whatever

I think it was Clay Harris that hit the granny in 2003, but I could be wrong.

I was fortunate enough to go to many of the regional games in the 90's and early 2000's. My favorites:

- 1996 vs. Ga Tech with 18 runs in the 7th as previously mentioned.

- 1998 vs. Cal State Fullerton in the regionals. They had to beat us twice but ran out of pitching. CSU was up 2-1 in the 4th when LSU scored 10 runs. Brad Cresse hit two HR's and I think they were both in the same inning and one was a grand slam.

- 2003 vs. Baylor in game 3 of the super regional. We won game 20-5 on the back of big inning.

- 2008 vs. Irvine in game 3 of the super regional. It was the 6 run first inning with back-to-back-to-back HR's by Blake Dean, Matt Clark and Micah Gibbs. The old Box was insane that day.
