So what happened after 2023? He coasted all the way to retirement right? I guess you’re gonna tell me Jay’s a lazy recruiter now?

There are way more that lose with it than won without it.

Imagine what his record would be if one of the best college pitchers of all time, and future MLB hall of famer Skenes went somewhere else

It seems like when LSU wins a NC in any sport they get major snake bite. Like they sold their souls to the voodoo queen then the next year all the worst imaginable luck happens.

LSU is tackling multiple major injuries right now in baseball. I don't care who you are if you're losing your best players you're going to look bad. Yes, they whiffed hard on the transfer portal which isn't helping but you lost your day 1 and day 2 starter alongside your best hitter and one of your senior leaders. That's tough for anyone to overcome.

I'm not making excuses for Jay because he's definitely at fault with the transfer portal additions and bad decisions at times this year. It just seems everything that could possibly go wrong does and it's not just Jay.

His 2nd title team had "everything break its way" because Arkansas made 2 bad plays, but were only in position to make bad plays because LSU made their own bad play an inning before. He also lost his predicted 2 top bullpen arms before the season.

we've had to replace our entire starting rotation every single season he's been here. We weren't just going to be able to keep replacing Skenes/Floyd, Hollman/Jump, Anderson/Eyanson every year. Some of that is signing guys from the portal, and some of it is having draft eligible sophomores. But it's just not been ideal. Next year might actually be the first time we actually bring a starting pitcher back for a second consecutive season

But yeah, these hypos are so dumb. "What if Jay never had good players and what if those players didn't play well"

The irony of an Oregon dick sucker posting this.

Imagine what anyone's record would be like if they didn't out-recruit other coaches for the best players!!!111!! It'd be bad!!

You never cease to amaze.

The man has two college World Series titles and has taken two separate schools to the college World Series and is under 50 years old. His resume speaks for itself and he is aware the mistakes made building this team. NIL is a new beast and adjustments I expect will be made. He is not going anywhere anytime soon unless he decides to do so. Literally the best option as a baseball coach and you want more.

Jay might be fired after this year if Tre Morgan (Paul recruit) doesn’t make an all time defensive play on the WF bunt and if the Arkansas shortstop turns a simple double play last year.

It is crazy that a baseball team would win a game off of a great play or taking advantage of the other team’s defensive errors

Yeah.

Outside of getting insane draft luck, it's almost impossible to compete for a title in consecutive years.

You have to have top end, elite, older talent in several key positions. Your better young guys will then transfer out unless they are Curiel like and are getting significant PT in year 1. You can't develop guys because the rest of the league (and LSU, usually) is so stacked top to bottom that mistakes are killed. There's a reason UF, Tenn, LSU, MSU, and OM all struggled the year following their title.

Not only do you have to replace a TON, you are wayyyy behind in the portal compared to teams that don't make Omaha.

The portal is the reason we’re in this predicament. We either processed or let some good players leave. Then the players we got in the portal suck arse. CJJ will figure it out in the offseason. Every program has a year like this, I wish it wasn’t this bad but it is what it is. We’ll be back next year

He is the only coach in the last 2 decades to take 2 different programs to the cws.

So you are saying Jay is a recruiter spending other people’s money? But not a good coach. Hmmm

He's below average. No average coach loses a game they were winning 7 - 2 in the 7th

You know how many lucky plays we had to have just to get to the WS finals when we had Skeenes and Crews?

Last year was his only good year. I'll give him that.

So who are the above average coaches?
