Competing for a title? Dude, we're the 3rd worst team in the conference
So?
LSU was 1 out away from a SR in 2022. Won the title in 2023. 1 out away from hosting a SR in 2024. Won the title in 2025.
Yes, they’re terrible this year but wanting to burn it all down over one season is so dumb it actually hurts.
I’m legit to the point that I hope Johnson leaves because the retards in this fanbase don’t deserve the success he has brought, and will bring again.

We either processed or let some good players leave
that's been happening in our baseball program forever. Some may not even realize that the transfer rules for football didn't always apply to baseball, as in you used to not be penalized by having to sit out a year when transferring. Regardless, we've been processing players for a long, long time. And that's not why we're struggling this year.
Ryan Costello has been horrible in Big 10 play. He's hitting .186
Ashton Larson has been a platoon DH for Texas hitting in the 9 hole and has zero XBHs in SEC play.
Mikey Ryan is really the only position player we're missing but he wanted to play shortstop here and he's not good at shortstop. That's why he left
People may want to bring up Brady Neal, but we don't get Hernandez last year if Neal is still on the roster, and we don't win a national title with Neal at catcher (he was worst last year than he was at LSU in 2024)
For pitchers, yeah Cam Johnson is pitching much better, but again, he sucked again last year and finally put things together this year, for the most part, at Oklahoma.

The ones who have their teams in the top 25, not the bottom 25.

This was exactly my point. It happens to everyone. And the ones that are more consistent don’t get over the hump of championships.

do they have to do it every year? Or is being a good coach fluid year to year?

So who are the above average coaches?

So, just to be clear, Jay Johnson was the best coach in the country 2 of the last 3 years then?

The margins are extremely thin in the SEC. You can be a decent team and be at the bottom of this conference. We're 0-6 in 1 run games. We're 1-2 in 2 run games. We're 0-4 in 3 run games. If you flip 4 of those, LSU is 4th in the conference.
This team is probably like 14-4 in the ACC.
Unfortunately, we're not in the ACC, so that doesn't matter.

Anyone wanting to truly "burn it down" or even fire Johnson is an idiot
But a lot of the frustration on this board is from people who are criticizing his construction of this team or him making a bewildering coaching decision and then having to deal with some ranter screeching because someone dared to question our NC winning coach.

Kendall was talking about this preseason last year. He basically said 12-13 teams in the SEC were good enough as a team to make a run in Omaha, but they all have to play each other and someone is going to lose a lot of games and appear to be bad when they aren't.

He will say year to year with a straight face and not acknowledge that Brian OConnor did this same thing with Virginia last year.

Those same posters questioned the roster in 2022. And 2023. And 2024. And 2025.
Let’s not act like they know what they’re talking about. It’s the same complaints, from the same posters, every single year.

Last year, I have to give it to him - we got hot at the exact right moment.
The year with Skeenes, Crews, and a few lucky plays? Hell no. ANY College Coach would have won the world series with those guys and probably without the lucky plays.

So all the other coaches that are better than Jay haven’t had any luck?
I’m just trying to get the measure of what actually makes a 2 time natty winning coach below average.
Because, you know, winning multiple titles is pretty difficult to do. So far, the only thing you can seem to come up with is “he was lucky”.

quote:Yeah. Just is what it is. I said it in an earlier post in another thread. Mistakes get killed in the SEC unlike any other conference.

I disagree. It's just impossible to win in the SEC with this big of a talent disadvantage. Now Manieri was a terrible manager

Jay might be fired after this year if Tre Morgan (Paul recruit) doesn’t make an all time defensive play on the WF bunt and if the Arkansas shortstop turns a simple double play last year.
This is dumb. We might be top of the SEC if we don’t make errors and other teams didn’t make good plays.

He’s going to finish year 5 without sniffing an SEC title
In 2023 we finished 1/2 game out of first.

With Skeenes, Crews, and Tank, You shouldn't need luck.
