I’m wondering why he jumped in, and why he has fallen so far…

Doesn’t he have another year of eligibility? He should just return to college
NCAA Memorandum (Re-Entering College from Draft)

Edit this is false. Participation past the combine eliminates eligibility.

Yep.
Smith won his gamble. Wingo did not.

I think with the NFL they think Wingo is a little undersized.

Wings has the talent but I feel like ha gave up at some point. Had to be frustrating but I believe he is paying the cost of the problem including former coaching now.

Probably something to do with medicals and also his size.

It's hard to hold up in the NFL at that size. I'm sure someone will draft him in the 6th.

Most of these players get a grade back from the NFL. His probably said 4th round.

I think Bo Davis could've turned him into a Day 2 selection. Maybe his medicals were bad? He left when his stock couldn't have been lower, especially when he was always going to be a production guy rather than a traits pick like Maason Smith.

Does it really matter? Sometimes people are just done with school. If he works hard and makes something of himself it will all be ok. There is a difference between someone being lazy and someone being ready to move on. I don't think Wingo is lazy....

He’s played a ton of college football. He was never changing his frame. He would probably be in the same position next year, a year older, and having to do another year of school.

Sometimes guys are ready to move on.

This maybe true, but his NIL for 2024 would far exceed 5-7 round compensation

I don't think he had anywhere else to go upward. His stock was as high as it was going to get. He's not a measurable or physical freak and the NFL just doesn't love that. He was a great player for LSU. I'm going to miss him. LSU is basically losing 3 NFL defensive lineman. That's going to sting. Smith has immense potential and I think before his injury he was everything he was billed to be. Last year he simply was getting back into game form and you could see his conditioning was his issue.

two more rounds left, hopefully it can happen for him. If not there’s always the UFL

Ever heard of undrafted free agents. Over 200 make NFL rosters every year.

I know this would add quite a bit of confusion for teams but I wish players could pull their names from the draft without penalty if they slip further than they feel they are worth.
That way they can come back to work on their skills another year at the college level rather than sign as a FA.
Probably would save a lot of careers.

He jumped in for money. His injuries and attitude towards House probably contributed to his fall. The video after the bowl game didn’t make him or House look good. House apparently has earned enough respect to get another NFL job even though he wasn’t a good DC. Wingo has to prove himself somewhere. I hope he gets a chance.
