Politicians have screwed it up again.

They fixed the abuse of young athletes, universities refusing to adequately pay them their performance on the playing field.

So now we ignore young athletes and hire professional men to fill the teams.

How many young athletes will lose their opportunity as a result.

Who will be more entertaining? New Orleans NBA or LSU Professionals.

How is this any different than Oats signing that Pro guy for Bama that everybody on here had a problem with?

If you can't figure out how a guy who never attended college, entered the draft, signed a pro contract, and spent 3 years in the NBA G league is different from someone who never played a minute nor attended any NCAA-affiliated university and never played for any NBA affiiated ornganization, then there is no help for you.

A 25 yr old professional player, coming to steal 5 M from us. What a freaking joke this is at the same time, showing the desperation mode WW is in. What a joke that college has become

Your passion and desire to see WW fail is really quite impressive in it's conviction. It reminds me of Cantrelle's DGAF in it's pure intenstity!!

Now this is a measured criticism of the current state of recruiting. LSU is operating within the guidelines, so I have no issues with these moves in that respect, but I do agree that there needs to be a few more guardrails to cover these things.

That is a strong offer for 3.1 points and 1.4 assists in 16 games

how many points when you add up all of the averages together of his top 5 ? What will be LSU's anticipated score on average each game?

System is very flawed obviously, but to be fair. Our athletes are getting paid now too so why should they be any different than euro players or G-league players? They are paid players in a league lesser than the NBA just like those leagues

im trying to seriously understand what will this do for LSU basketball for the future? Will a young kid out of HS want to come if Wade is bringing in men 5 yrs older from a pro league overseas? I get that these older men will come right away and win some games, probably make the tourney, then some will be gone in a yr or 2 but is this the norm for lsu? Win with no tradition building? I mean not ONE kid will be from Louisiana possibly on next year's team. Dont care what McDonalds had. How does signing 23-25 yr old men for millions of dollars do for the future? Wade going to Europe and recruiting players that dont care about LSU and only what they can get paid in a year's time and bolt im not sure is the answer. Everybody here says he is a good coach, so why not build it from the bottom up? Who even said they can even "qualify" for school? Can they even comprehend how to take a class and actually pass? These guys haven't gone to school in 5/6/7 years perhaps?

Remember when sports were way more fun and you signed high school kids?

I do. It was great. And while we are on the subject, expanding the tournament from 68 to 76 teams isn’t right either. Really should have just left it at 64.

Is nothing sacred anymore? Just nothing but money and a business now.
I still watch college sports, but it’s just not as good as the good ol days.

I have no idea what distinction the NCAA has drawn regarding all this stuff, but Bedaiko at Alabama was drafted, played in the G League and was on multiple 2-way contract for NBA teams.

You are on point. The distinction is Bedaiko enrolled and played in college previously. The international players have not.

NCAA Bylaw 12.2.2.2.1 reads:

Before initial full-time collegiate enrollment, an individual may compete on a professional team (per Bylaw 12.02.4), provided the individual does not receive more than actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team

"actual and necessary" is vague. But in recent decision guys who never played college basketball but were in international pro leagues and/or the G-League making 6 figures salary were held to be under the "actual and necessary" threshold. However, there is no bright line rule as to what is "actual and necessary" and what is MORE than "actual and necessary".

It also further illustrates how much a LOT of the numbers being thrown around are BS. It is very likely the international players LSU is (reportedly) signing were making less than $1M (USD) per year as Euroleage pros. So these statements that they are getting paid $5M, $6M, etc by LSU are likely pure BS.

I was honestly pumped for Wades return, but I am losing interest by the minute.

I don't want to watch semi pro players pretend to be college kids for a year

As long as LSU basketball is winning fans will adapt to the new era of CBB. Michigan just won a national championship with a full starting lineup of experienced transfers. Not a single player began their career at Michigan...and I doubt Michigan fans really care.

McMahon tried to sign HS players and develop them over multiple years (including red-shirting multiple players) like was common place in the "old days". It failed miserably. Very few teams have had great success with mostly homegrown players. Purdue is one of the notable exceptions. If Wade could sign 5* HS freshmen and guarantee they will stay at LSU for 3-4 years, he would probably prefer that route. But that is unlikely.

Just listen to Rick Pitino when he said he will likely never recruit a HS player again. Not that he doesn't want to. It's just that rosters are built at the negotiating table..not in living rooms.

While we would all like to live in the past where local guys would sign with local schools and over the course of multiple years would become great and help the local school become great (See LSU in 2006), that is just not the world we live in anymore. Fans aren't going to support a guy who wants to "grow organically" and loses a ton along the way. We just went through that! Fans just want to see a winner. A good story to go along with the winning is nice. But winning is ALL that matters.

Don’t forget the inexplicable healthy scratches of players while we were suffocating with another 2-11 conference record yet again
