If they want to concede game one to us tell them to go right ahead.

I don't think they will start the 14th guy in their bullpen like they did before but I do think they will save Zack Lee (their #1 starter) for game 2. I would think they would start one of the other guys with a lot of starts (neither have good stats) in game 1 and see how it goes to see if they use any of their top bullpen pieces or not.

They don’t get a guaranteed 3rd game in this series so that would be dumb

I think you might be neglecting the psychological impact on youngsters down 1-0 in a Super and facing the prospect of your season ending, which is not a factor during the season. No way I am throwing away the first game of a Super...but I'm not the coach.

It may be worse psychologically if you lose the first game and go to the second having already used your best pitcher.

I would match whatever KY decides to do. If they go with their best, so do we. If they go with their best, we go with Floyd. Don't waste Skenes on their 3rd best pitcher, please.
If we have to go 3, I want Skenes on the mound.

Depends on how good they feel about their 1 to beat Floyd. Kentucky potentially feels their best bet is to win in 3 bc of how good Skenes is. Throw their 3 against Skenes and they take their chance with their ace against Floyd and hope their remaining staff can beat LSU’s remaining staff in game 3.

LSU has the better roster so I can see them trying to play the matchups.

When Shores and Edwards went down they exposed a weakness because I think Ack and Coleman were still out. Then other teams copied that approach which helped us to continue to develop Floyd (composure) and Hurd (consistency). Honestly without them our issues might've continued. I'd like to say I prefer our position now because we have 3 starters I'm comfortable with along with some bullpen help.

Even though you're guaranteed a 3rd game in the regular season doesn't mean you're guaranteed a shot to win the series in the regular season. You're just guaranteed a shot to not get swept.

If your ace can't win against the opponent's #2 you weren't winning the series anyway. You need to win the series to advance. If the coach thinks that's their best shot to win 2 games then they'll probably do it. If Skenes wasn't as dominant as he is then I could see why people are put off by the idea, but honestly I understand the strategy and almost expect them to employ it.

If their ace can't win them game 2 do you think they would see a game 3 if they pitched said ace against Skenes and their #2 in game 2?

This. The goal is win 2/3 and not a single game. Skenes is a generational pitcher so why match your best against him knowing there is still more baseball to be played. Floyd and Hurd are good but not great so Kentucky’s best shot msy very well be try to have their ace beat Floyd/Hurd and hope their remaining staff is better than LSU’s in game 3.

If I’m LSU, it would be ideal if Skenes is matched up with their ace.

Doubt they pitch backwards. You don’t want to get in a hole and have to win out after.

If Kentucky wants to give up a game in a win or go home best 2 out of 3 series then by all means let them go for it.

I have no doubt that Floyd can compete with their ace and Hurd with their number 2. If Floyd pitched for Kentucky he would be their ace.

Obviously no one wants to get into a hole but the goal is to win 2 out of 3 whether you win the first 2, the last 2, or first and last doesn’t matter. BOTH LSU AND KENTUCKY so analyze the best path to accomplishing that goal. If this was a winner take all game then the decision is clear but that’s not the case. The first game is not more important than the last. They all are of equal importance.

LSU has the best pitcher in the nation by quite a bit so Kentuckys chances of out dueling him are slim no matter who they pitch. Their chances of beating Floyd or Hurd are much higher.

Kentucky did what they did in SEC play to try to win the 3 game series. I expect they do the same here.

We only allowed 13 total runs in 3 games at the SEC Tournament. He was right the first time.
