Bakers defenses are too aggressive against mobile qbs.
Miami isnt a good comparison though, their defense, specifically the line crushed almost everyone, they were elite. Baker needs to prove his defense can defend in multiple ways, including without bringing a ton of pressure outside the front 4. Pressure by blitzing mobile QBs will get you killed when you play alot of man

He threw for nearly 300 yards in their first meeting and about 230 in the second. Also averaged over 4 yards per carry in the second meeting.
They just turned the ball over a ton.

His defense will only stop mobile QB's if his players can diagnose plays and make tackles. Few defenses have the personnel to pull that off. We just need for Blake to have a plan to at least contain them, instead of it looking like they've never faced a mobile QB. They shut down Pavia two years ago, but then got run over last year against him.

The offense keeping the ball and having the ability to sustain drives and score points might help just a little. LSU offense last year was putrid.

This is the statement that everyone leaves out when discussing LSU's woes concerning their defense against running QB's.

LSU's problem with containing running quarterbacks goes back well before coach Baker. Historically, we have not done well against mobile QBs going back well into the 1960s. Ole Miss had a QB named Archie Manning. In 1968 and 1969, we finally beat Bear Bryant and Alabama, but were beaten by Manning because we could not contain him. Alabama ran an option offense in the 1970s that we could not contain. John Bond at Mississippi State in the 1980s killed us every year. The only time in recent history that I can recall is John Chavis' defense against Manzel at Texas A&M that was successful.

Chavis schemed different vs running qb's. He didn't allow his de's to full on rush the qb. The de's played more of a zone type defense while trying to get pressure up the middle. When the qb's would abandon the pass and try to run outside the de's were there to make plays. Baker will need to adjust accordingly to have the same success.
