LSU deserves a better DC, he was just retained as a stop gap until a good defensive coordinator gets fired as a head coach then he’s gone.

Which games was this a problem for the defense BEFORE they got gassed from a 3 and out offense?
You can't ignore this variable.
The first 40 offensive plays for Ole Miss were essentially negative yardage against that defense.
Then lets not forget that the defense lost key starters. That's the real issue again this year. They are extremely good, but they aren't deep in the DB area and they have one servicable mulligan on the line. Any injury beyond that, and its going to be a long season.

LSU DCs from Chavis to Aranda did well against some of the best mobile QBs. Johnny Football and Jalen Hurts had career bad days vs LSU.

You might be on to something. He had his issues here and there but outside of that last Notre Dame game he put up some stout defenses. Was Chavis the DC when we completely shut down Lamar Jackson in the bowl game?

Scrambling is one thing. Hard to defend a great creator and scrambler. But the zone read specifically is not a difficult concept. It just takes self controlled DE's. The DE is completely unblocked on a zone read. He CANNOT go with the RB. He has to stay home and make the QB hand the ball off. The RB is not his job.

Our complete inability to sustain drives on offense (2nd worst in the SEC in avg plays per drive) absolutely killed our defense.
Baker’s biggest strength in his aggressive play calling became useless bc the defense was constantly being sent right back onto the field.

I think it is time for Bakers defenses to start stepping up. Under kiffin we know the offense will be able to score but dont wont to be winning games 45 to 40. Baker has been around for a while at LSU now , so hoping we can be winning games 45 to 20 or 45 to 24 etc...

No defense can stop a mobile QB who can perform out of the pocket as well. Did you see anyone stop Burrow or Daniels?

I don't understand the down votes on your question. It's a legitimate one. Blake baker has put up pretty highly ranked defenses nationally. But we have been legitimately bad at mobile quarterbacks and honestly 3rd and long. We were statistically towards the bottom of the league in third and long. Both of these have been holes in his defenses which means he's really strong against pocket passers and on first and second down. It's a valid question to wonder this will improve.
We have no idea if BK was handcuffing him at all or if he just did not have the Personnel to do what he wanted. I'm hoping it's one of those two and he's known all along how to stop those just didn't have the freedom or Personnel to do so. Would love to find that is fixed. We will know early with Chambliss in week 3 and read in week 4. I could do without watching Reed gash our defense for a third year in a row
