Why give up a home game and the money that comes with it?
I imagine the revenue generated for these games in the Box isn’t really that much since the stands are not nearly full.
LSU travels to an in state school on a Tuesday and the place is packed and probably makes the revenue in one night they usually make in a whole weekend.

Who cares? You telling me that CJJ got Woody to forego $150K in revenue (conservative based on season ticket sales and game revenue minus expenses) in order to hook up CJJ's boy?
do you think he snuck the matchup by the AD? I bet that is why they cancelled it. Woodward just found out.

Tulane. UL Laf and La Tech
If you win road games when they are tier 1 (or even 2), it helps SOS and RPI

With that being said, it’s not 1995 anymore. Now if you can’t make it to the Box you can watch on ESPN+.
Watching a broadcast on TV isn’t the same as watching in person. My point was many fans that live around the state get to see LSU play in person that normally wouldn’t otherwise. LSU not playing playing 1 midweek game at home isn’t going make any difference on the baseball budget.
Nichols is the only road in state game for 2025. When they play Tulane in Metry their are usually more LSU fans than Tulane.

If I remember correctly, skip bertman started playing instate school to help those baseball programs financially. Knowing with lsu in town, it will be a sellout and generate revenue.

For about the past 10-15 years, we typically play 1 away game in state a year. We've been all across the state, ULL, McNeese, SLU, UNO, La Tech, etc. I really don't mind it at all. It's a good test and the crowds are often good atmospheres.

Nearly every other SEC school does it too

Because it is good for baseball.

The University of Maine was one of the first D1 programs to officially release its 2022 schedule, and the Black Bears will be chasing a guaranteed appearance fee on the opening weekend when they will play a three-game set at LSU, a team that advanced to the College World Series last spring

If LSU never agreed on o play any in state team at their place maybe they’d not be interested in playing at LSU ? I doubt they get very much like they would in FB but hosting LSU pro makes their budget. Besides would you want to never play a road game besides in conference?

This. Tiger fans around & out of LA enjoy getting to see the Tigers as much as possible.
Similarly FB should go to a 9-game 4/4/1 SEC schedule with the 1 neutral site game moved around to stadiums across the SEC footprint & tickets split 50/50 between the opposing schools the way UT/OU & UF/UGA do.

What pisses me off is that when we play at Tulane, they make it very difficult for LSU fans to get tickets. We shouldn’t let that happen.

How many of those small school fans also root for LSU?
It's a big boost to those small schools also

Multiple reasons:
1 You basically have to play in state or close to instate schools every year midweek. Might as well fund them a bit in hopes they are good to boost your rpi and sos.
2 Building good relationships with instate schools helps when scheduling conflicts come up, and you need a favor in a pinch
3 Testing your team on the road in usually packed stadiums pre conference can be beneficial
4 Good for non baton rouge alumni to see the tigers and to expand your brand
5 could help recruiting players from those schools in the portal or related schools/networking

Are you telling me that Omaha and Purdue Fort Wayne and North Alabama and North Dakota St are getting paid to come play at LSU?
Yes do you not know how contracts work?
Posted on 2/19/25 at 8:59 pm to Ponchy Tiger
They do it because when lsu comes to town, they can charge 20 a ticket and the place is packed.

I do not disagree with any of these arguments. His argument is that LSU is leaving a ton of money on the table by playing at state schools.
Your friend is an idiot and has no fricking clue how much money LSU is ‘leaving on the table’
People love to throw out cliches and act like they have a clue…… but they don’t

this.
LSU agrees to play once at their place for every 2-4 times they play at LSU.
for years Tulane was the only in state school that got a home game against LSU every season.
that no longer happens as Tulane is now in the same rotation as the rest of the in state schools.
