Why is Monster Milam not getting love from MLB ?

I saw where MLB ranked 200 top prospects for 2026. There was no Milam & a number of SEC SS were picked in these rankings. Don’t know much about HS infielders but definitely was a bit shocked he not listed
Might be good news tho , if he, his family & advisors decide returning to Tigers is in his best interest

What a shame, he's one of the best in the SEC.

It’s been talked about a good bit. He’s very short, his base running is lack luster and his bat needs work. Period. The biggest con he has is measurable. If you are going to be short you have to make up for it in every other measurable and he can’t. He may be one of the best SS we’ve ever had and one of the best in college baseball history. Hes still really short and mlb devalues that. Sucks because he’s better than almost all at his position.

He is like 5'3. You have to be off the charts in everything else when you are that short.

Yup. Undersized. Below average speed. Range doesn't transition to the pro level. But dude is a baller. One of the best to play the position at LSU. Would be awesome to get him back for a fourth year.

Might he take a similar, if not downright identical, path to the “show” as our very own Mr. Austin Nola did? His glove, much like Nola, are downright incredible, some might even say, myself included, elite! But he may lack in another aspects the “bigs” wants to see i.e baserunning and hitting ability. I do wonder if Milam is itching at giving Nola a call on the difficulty, both physical and mental, of swapping over to catcher this late in his baseball career. Could shoot Mr. Milam up the leaderboards on draft boards everywhere if he publicly announced a switch!

I mean maybe. Nola got called up in large part due to his versatility. He left LSU as a SS and got called up as a catcher/1st baseman. Milam ain’t doing that.

MLB would look at him as a 2B/3B, not SS ultimately due to height/range projection mostly
To be a 2B/3B he probably doesnt profile out with enough of the bat side to project high enough. He is a good/solid hitter, but not with plus power or plus average necessarily on their end.
If he raked in college like consistently well over .300 each season with more power he would be valued higher on the MLB side even with the height deficiency; he's been mostly around a .300 college hitter with around 10 homers each year...being a switch hitter is nice extra but not enough to make him say a Top 4/5 round pick or anything.

But thats the entire point of my post! If he announces a switch now he could potentially save himself years of “riding the bus” in a balls and shoot up the ladder quicker as a catcher. Just a thought!

Odds are against him becoming a MLB regular but could make it as a utility IF. A guy like him should never be taken in the top 5 rounds

There’s no way this post is real.

Because he is short and his bat never really developed into a plus tool. Good college player and i hope he comes back but he does not have a future in professional baseball,

Only takes one team to believe in him and give him a chance. He will take advantage of it.

he will still get drafted early just not as early as some would think

I believe he makes the move to 2nd base at the next level and if he can get better and more consistent at the plate he could definitely play at the next level for a good amount of time.

They have the luxury of the minor leagues to sort out whether guys with questionable measurable can play. So they take measurable are a premium in the top rounds
