You’re ignoring drop 5 bats and everything else that makes being a defender so much harder.
college stopped using drop 5s after the 1998 season. Theriot was a freshman in 1999.
quote:
1999 - BESR standard. During the early 1990's several governing bodies and manufacturers had been discussing the regulation of bat performance. After the 1998 season - during which a large number of scoring records were broken - the issue came to a head, and the NCAA adopted the BESR (Ball-Exit-Speed Ratio) standard to regulate the performance of aluminum and composite bats. In addition, the NCAA instituted a reduction of the maximum barrel diameter to 2.5-inches, the "minus-3" rule on weight -- which means that the difference between the weight of the bat (in ounces) and the length (in inches) can be nor no more than 3 integers -- and a lower limit on the bat's moment-of-inertia.
College hitters now are hitting balls harder than they did when Theriot/Fontenot played. In Theriot's 3 years here, we hit 104, 96, and 98 HRs as a team. This was after hitting 131, 188, and 157 1996-98. Theriot didn't play in that drop 5 gorilla ball era.

He's got an uphill climb, because he will both have to hit enough at every level and prove he can continue to field at shortstop at every level.

But he will get less of a leash than most guys.
Yea this is where the lack of size/speed/strength standpoint hurt him, he will get less chances to prove it because there's no future projection to dream on.
I mostly wanted to call out the people ITT saying he'll definitely never be a big leaguer because he's short. Acting like that's a total disqualifier is dumb.

His bat to ball skills are premium. But he doesn't hit the ball especially hard. That means he's pretty much going to have to be able to field at SS to make the majors. But Daniel Descalso was like a 10 year big leaguer and he couldn't break a pane of glass with his bat or his arm.

when will milam, curiel, and brown announce their decisions? would think it would affect us in the portal the longer the unknown is

But thats the entire point of my post! If he announces a switch now he could potentially save himself years of “riding the bus” in a balls and shoot up the ladder quicker as a catcher. Just a thought!
Some of yall are so out of touch with reality it’s fricking insane
This isn’t Xbox bro. You can’t just edit his info and ratings to make him the player you want him to be

Would think Brown is 100% gone
Curiel and Milam i guess just depends on where they get drafted and if 5 for 5 passes.

Just hope us waiting on them won’t hurt us in the portal

If you are going to be short you have to make up for it in every other measurable and he can’t.

He may be one of the best SS we’ve ever had and one of the best in college baseball history.
Can't be both at the same time. Can't be the best SS ever at LSU and in CBB history and not be getting MLB love.

Well it’s happening in front of your eyes so I guess it could be true.
Also I said “may be” and “one of”, as well as “make up for it in EVERY OTHER measurable”. Read the whole post and get someone to help you comprehend it fully.

In baseball you can come back to school if drafted.

I know it hurts your soul, but he's just an average dude with size limitations.

Got it, you’re retarded. Thanks for letting me know not to waste my time responding anymore.

I thought that was just for the first time a player is eligible to be drafted.
I thought that it was different the second time the player is drafted.
so youre saying.... that if I got picked in the 10th round out of high school and I decided to come to lsu instead of sign with a pro team, then If I got picked my junior year in the 8th round I could decide to come back to school for my senior year and then I could be drafted again and go to the minors?

LSU has had players that were drafted 4 times. I believe Kevin Shipp is one of them.

but it probably doesn't happen a lot because the teams know what it will take to get a guy to leave school and they probably dont draft a guy unless theyre prepared to pay that number
is that correct, for the most part?

Antoine Duplantis if finishing school is the qualifier. The shrinking of the draft has a lot to do with this
