This is the correct answer.

Now this is fair
Thankfully the guy we have doing the hiring right now knows what he's doing.

I downvoted because the premise of your question is flawed. Who qualifies as an elite coach? Those guys are often already established in jobs where moving to LSU would be lateral at best. Our job openings still attract attention nationwide.
In the rare instance where a highly accomplished coach like Jimbo became gettable from another major program, many in this fanbase didn't want him, for whatever reason they could come up with.
Most people realize coaching searches are always a crapshoot, no matter who you hire or how much money you spend. LSU has had a better track record than the vast majority of athletic departments in the country.

Agree with you, but if we are using our history of hiring as of late as the way to validate LSU as such a high end place to coach, it doesn’t line up.
I know O is lost, but even a lost person can get quality hires if the resumes that are on their desk is full of quality candidates. It seems every hire we have to make is being forced to pick unproven or washed up options. For instance, our def coordinator hire, where Freeman (the target) chose ND over us and we couldn’t find any other options to either show interest or pick up the phone, and was forced to hire a DC who’s resume should only maybe get him a job at low tier D1 school

Coordinator hires are on the coach, not LSU. There are literally hundreds of coaches we could have hired for either job.

This has been answered before, when LSU has had visionary leadership in admin...and it's only been twice (Bob Broadhead, Mark Emmert) elite hires were made.
When we've had crap admin focused on bean counting, camp money, or good ol boy hires (Wharton, Bud Davis, Joe Dean, Skip Bertman, Aleeva, Nasa Man, Lombardi, F King) you don't attract elite football coaches when the pool is relatively small.
Woody's early hires and resume is strong, so I'm hopeful his big game hunting will be succesful.

It’s not, 2016 is a bad example considering alleva didn’t try.
The Les miles hire was kinda skip being a bad AD

He also made Michigan St. A reputable team, winning games against other teams that had much better players. That's what makes a good coach, that's Kelly did Saturday night.

Unrealistic demands and expectations of the fan base.

It's entirely possible that LSU isn't the destination job that we in our glorious circle jerk think it is.

If you were a coach would you want to come into the SEC west with Bama as an opponent and have 2-3 yrs maybe to win? LSU fans are the problem.
Are people upset because O isn't beating Bama or because the team fell off a cliff and seems to have found another one and is on step off that second cliff?
Thing is the standard Miles was held to was winning the west, ie beating Bama, so why should the coach we hired to reach him have lower expectations.
Especially after the greatest season in school and maybe even ncaa history????

I think Woodward will at the very minimum validate the theory that high quality AD’s are the difference between LSU having a great hire or not.
Posted on 9/8/21 at 5:18 pm to JamesMaskin
Because our players are grossly overrated every year and it makes all coaches appear to be incompetent

Too many times the Board wanted “an LSU guy.”
And after the Spurrier shite show, that soured plenty of good coaches on LSU.

You are on this site and you have to ask that question...
Who wants to take a job where 11 games from a NC and the best season ever the fanbase wants to tar, feather, and fire the coach.
I have heard all this bullshite before about we gonna go get this coach, that coach, and the mack daddy coach. And you know what happened... none of them came.

Given the last decade, I expect Bama to beat us 4 out of 5 seasons.
For me, I'm mad at O because of horribly managed coordinator hiring outside of Brady, repeated performance mistakes that are not corrected for multiple games in a row, lack of in-game strategy adjustment, and imo questionable and predictable play calling. But as of today, I'm mostly mad at O because our own players are admitting they are unprepared mentally and physically for our opponents.
