Why don’t people build houses with wrap around porches anymore?

They also help with cooling and road/other noise.

I agree. Perhaps cost -- it's not conditioned living space.

I am in the process of building and have a very large front porch with sitting area space at both ends. The entire wrap around would not have worked for the look I am after.

The wrap around is largely a waste of under roof space

People want large under roof backyard living spaces only now

I've got a nice size front porch now, and a very ample back veranda. It's impractical to have it wrap around the whole house, and usually when it did the house was elevated and it served a purpose

Wasted space, no one needs them any longer. I had a home with them, had big plans to hang out in it all the time. Never used it.

Mainly because we now have "people that live next door" , rather than "neighbors"

I think it's a great look. But very expensive. As others have said, I'm sinking money into my back patio space that will be screened in (motorized), which is what I think many people today are doing if their budget allows for it.

But I do believe I will enjoy being able to sit out on my front porch in a swing -- or a rocker. Until the mosquitos decide to eat me alive, then I will go either inside or to the back porch.

Wrap around porches are dead space. To construct them, you’ve got to build the same foundations, floor, structural load bearing system and roofing of interior spaces but only get minimal use and value* from them.

Wrap around porches are a luxury and culturally are passé.

*The area of porches are not factored into the square footage of a house for sale purposes.

I built mine 6 years ago. It’s got a 10 foot porch all the way around
