Why does everyone have issues with NIL

Serious Question. Why does everyone say its the end of College Football? You know this has always been going on.....It is just in the open now.

With players being able to transfer and play without having to sit out a year packaged with NIL it basically creates a free agency market.

When you throw in the Transfer Portal it’s just about bidding wars every year for the best players even after you sign them

Not so much with NIL, it’s how they set up NIL. It won’t work unless it’s regulated across the board.

Players are mercenaries now. They don't play for love of the sport and love of the school. They play for love of money.

My issue isn’t with NIL. My issue is the one time free transfer rule. It is what turned the sport into yearly free agency.

Lack of regulations/cap enforced, crippling to smaller schools, etc.

I don't have a problem with NIL so long as it's regulated and enforced. My primary problem is with A&M.

Anyone believing this is literally retarded.

NIL

this has always been going on

Name-Image-Likeness - it was long overdue to let players benefit from the use of their name or likeness while in school. What schools like A&M turned it into, flat out buying players to come to a program, is not sustainable for most programs. A professional minor league football league with unlimited free agency is not a model that will prove interesting. I think it will be a nightmare for most programs and fans alike.

So kids took money under the table, but they loved the school and weren’t mercenaries?
Now they accept NIL and that makes them a mercenary?

Serious Question. Why does everyone say its the end of College Football?
Logically: The NCAA saying someone over the age 18 doesn't have the right to make money off of their own name, image, or likeness is both an overreach and made no sense to me.
Fairness: Lots of people and entities are making money off of these players, especially the NCAA in ways other than their name, image, or likeness. It's only fair that the players have access to that one area while all these others have access to the other areas.
My problem, and this is where the root of "destroying college football" claims lies is in the combination of transferring AND immediate eligibility. Note, not the portal per se- it is only a tool. The problem lies in transferring with no consequence.
Now there's plenty of people, myself included, that will say these kids have a right to transfer. And they do; but a right and "no consequences" are two different things. As long as the consequences are not so harsh or restrictive that they do not effectively nullify the right- and the consequences we had did not do that.
So while in the same breath many, myself included here too, say that someone of age as an adult should have to the right to make money off of their NIL at the same time someone of age has to meet other obligations. Those are financial aid and LOI obligations which are effectively contracts. So if having the right is true (NIL), so are the obligations (consequences for transferring).
IF there was some penalty for transferring then the NIL could not be used as a tool to buy existing players. NIL still has other problems related to HS recruits mind you. But if you eliminate the "free agency" aspect which can be eliminated by introducing some mild-to-moderate penalty for transferring the NIL is a non-issue (for the most part) regarding buying players.
To add, most states NIL laws, and it is regulated by the states, not the NCAA now as per the SCOTUS, forbid the use of NIL for non-players, i.e. recruits. So that problem lies in enforcement, not in the NIL rules themselves.

Its much more than just giving players compensation.
There are no restrictions on how, when, why a player can leave. There are no penalties if they leave. Its a 24/7 free agency for every player.
If you dont see the issue with that, then you are just plain ignorant.

Nobody has a problem with a player getting paid for their likeness being used in a college football video game, for example. Or a company having them advertise with them based on their followers on social media.
The part people have a problem with is using NIL and the free transfer to hold schools hostage every offseason for more money under the guise of NIL.

Imagine if Joe Burrow had another year of eligibility after 2019. Schools could throw whatever amount they wanted at him and there would be absolutely zero penalty for him to leave.
Its going to be a constant bidding war. Recruiting and signing a LOI mean absolutely jack shite now. Its open season for any player, anytime.

It’s free agency

Because it’s a shite show. The transfer portal is a joke. Transferring within your same conference is a joke. And it’s just straight up pay for play. I don’t care if anyone agrees but the old system was fine sure there was some under the table dealings but for the most part it wasn’t pay for play. It’s a free country and signing a letter of intent to go play college football to use a schools facilities, their doctors, their training staff, free tutors, free clothes, free food, free room an board, and free education. No one forced anyone to play football or sign a letter of intent or play college football. So the system wasn’t broke how it was at least if you wanted to keep college football as college football. What will be happening in the years to come will definitely change college football and hell maybe I’m wrong maybe it will be SO GREAT but I have my doubts.Down vote away lol

For once I agree with Sankey. While I'm seeing allot of money being promised to players, I'm not seeing much name, image and likenesses being used for those players. All it has become it buying players with money from companies that really aren't companies.
