Why are we questioning the decision to punt in our own territory at the end of the game?

We were not punting to Mahomes or Brady with 2 min to go

We were punting to an inferior team with a quarterback who hadn’t looked threatening all night with a defense who on paper is markedly superior

We did the best statistical play and the defense didn’t show up

Had we gone for it, the pitchforks would have been hot to prod

Because LK as the best play caller can pick up a yard easily.

1000% this was the right call. Defense choked majorly. If we had Whit, we likely win by 2 TDs, but injuries are a part of the game.

You don’t get it, Kentucky has the ball your side of the field with 2 mins to drive 50 yards and score a TD.

I don’t think people would have reacted as negatively at going for it, not making it, and losing as they are about punting and losing. People know who Kiffin is and wanted him to go for it. This guy ain’t Kiffin.

I just don’t think it’s a great idea to lean on a defense that’s missing 2 of the top 4 LBers, including your green dot, and a shuffled secondary due to losing Spears.

Just go get the fricking half yard

Every version of Lane I had in my head before he came here includes him going for it on that 4th down. I know I’m not alone on this feeling. What happened to that Lane?

And if Kentucky just so happens to defend the play perfectly and get the ball on our own 35?

Because it consistently happens when we have a long field and need to get a stop. Everybody knew it was going to happen as well. Also its 1 yard. You really cant get 1 yard with some sort of gadget or jumbo play? You were hired because you were supposed to be aggressive and ive seen nothing aggressive in either the Ole Miss game or this one.

Correct. I would have gone for it on 4th, but punting is defendable and with 90 seconds you think your D can wrap it up against an inferior quarterback who has to throw it. Defense blowing it is where our ire should be directed

I understand why we punted. It makes sense. What I don’t understand is Lane is known for going for it in that situation, especially if it ends the game.

TBH I think he goes for it if we were up 7.

Becuz anyone with a pulse knew Kentucky was going to drive right down the field on our defense especially our defensive back! Whatever we are paying them is way too much.

Huh? They only needed a FG and got into field goal position the two drives prior. Shockingly they did it again!

Exactly. This is the new Lane. He doesnt have to prove himself to people by taking a risk every chance he gets. Right choice wrong outcome.

They probably settle for a FG and we end up in OT anyway.

They hadn’t scored but 3 points the entire 2nd half.

If you trust your defense to get a stop, then go and try to win the game by getting a half yard.

They showed the could move the ball.

They were going to have 4 downs to do so now.

Or you can just go for 1 fricking yard and end it all and AT WORST still have your D in a much better position holding them to a fg with them only using 3 downs.

Stats? You could watch the game and see this coming. LSU's defense was keeping the out of the end zone, but they were still going to allow them to drive the field with 4 downs every time.

Why give them the opportunity? Why? They had to be thrilled LSU punted.

There are no pitchforks in year one. Like how about win the game?

We were not punting to Mahomes or Brady with 2 min to go

The amount of time is an eternity with this defense and in college.

It's irrelevant who the QB was. You can't expect the defense to hold them out of FG range there when they were going to have 4 downs.

If LSU was up 4 then punt. Yes, I agree, but they were always getting into FG range.
