By congratulating Terrace Marshall and putting out a video the day after he quits isnt LSU doing just that??? LSU is legitimizing Marshall's decision to put himself before his team. Does LSU not understand this trend will lead to more of the same and an apathetic not fanatic base?

What is LSU supposed to do?
shite on the kid?
shite on the kid?

It is an interesting position. You cannot change culture in a day so you have to congratulate the kid.

Hot take: kids leaving LSU for the NFL is not bad.
Is it more prevalent at LSU than at other schools? The data says that it is. So what does that mean? It means you account for that in your recruiting and roster management. You know that you're only going to get 3 years from most of the top talent that you want on the team, so recruit their replacements accordingly. Same thing Coach K does at Duke with basketball or Cal at Kentucky. They know what they're getting from guys that are planning to go to the NBA after a year or two. They recruit the replacements and keep trucking. LSU has done pretty well at that, but there are some positions where we have struggled more than others.

Just listening to the radio, and Hanagriff believes a big part of it is the excessive weed testing that our department does. Why the hell are we still doing this? Who gives a shite if they want to smoke pot on their down time.

We have the 2nd most championships over the past 2 decades. Bama/OSU/Clemson are better than us from a year to year consistency standpoint in the last 5 or so years, but we're right in that next tier, so whatever we're doing has been working.

We have had 15 years of idiots running the program. Saban was the last real leader we had.

Paul, I’ll never leave LSU Dietzel..

We have become football’s version of Kentucky basketball. Not the worst thing but not ideal.

So what gives?
It's a recruiting tool. LSU bends over backwards to put kids in the league. Major in PE and in 3 years, poof, see you later.

We had a punter leave early for the draft...who did NOT get drafted.
Wasn’t there smoke he would have been ineligible because he never went to class?

You don’t think nick Saban goes into a kids home & sells them on the ability to play in the nfl? That’s what the kids want.
I think Nick sells kids on staying in school regardless of whether it’s the “right” move. It may not be completely honest but it benefits their program.

The good news is none of our current underclassmen on the O line will declare.

This started earlier than six years ago. It coincided with media blitz on paying players. Media telling Fornette to sit out junior year. Blah blah blah. And the numbers are skewed by the great LSU 2019 team. Whatever not going away

Unfortunately I think a good bit of this is still happening and won’t stop. The problem with this is, you need great recruiting classes every year and you can’t miss on the guys you get. You also need low turnover and LSU hasn’t had either of these recently in terms of turnover in personnel and missing on some talent evaluations. What is happening now is what you’re going to get, every few years you’ll amass talent and experience and it leads to a result like last year. Then you’ll experience this year every few years because of loss of players, transfers and misses in talent. Obviously good coaching plays a big part in this also.

We used to have juniors leave all the time. We never had junior night and those kids at least finished season with their team. you can't make a kid be committed but you dont have to honor quitting either. Just let him go. Maybe congratulate him when he's drafted. what are you congratulating right now?

You also need low turnover
When you match quitting early for NFL with quitting early (transferring) because you're not starting then you have a recipe destined for failure. Not sure how you develop a program under these conditions.

Alabama is not selling these 5 star players anything. They are doing a better job than anyone else of buying these players.
