We had that until he got hurt in the 3rd game of the year but we were still losing because our defense was so bad

But probably win or come really close this past Sat if Brennan is playing

I’m ok with selling the NFL. That’s what these kids want for the most part. Can’t argue that it doesn’t work. We are a top 5 program over the past 20 years. Seasons like this one sucks obviously but they are typically the anomaly and not the norm

In the three years 2017, 2018, and 2019 LSU has had 14 underclassmen in total declare for the NFL draft.

Alabama had 15 in that span and Ohio St - 14

Could he have been better served by coming back and dominating on the 2019 team and being drafted higher than a late 7th pick? what point do you think you're making with that?

Seems like a nice arbitrary cut off time to try to make a point. So at best we are tied for second most recently. Great point you've made

Stopping it is not easy.

Coach Ed Orgeron and LSU have started using external help in the form of consultants, said Verge Ausberry, deputy director of athletics. They distribute packets of information to underclassmen mulling a leap to professional sports, with specifics to that prospect’s value and how it could increase with a return to college.

“We educate our young men (on) how it works, your value, where you want to go and getting the most out of your value,” Ausberry said. “Just don’t go to the NFL to go to the NFL. You have outside consultants Coach O has used very well and you see the numbers of guys who have come back.”

The trend this year ticked up

You left this part out of your 2018 article

This wouldn't be nearly as big a deal as it is if LSU could develop top-tier QBs, one right after another, like some select other programs do. This prevents us from competing at the highest level on a more consistent basis far more than the defections do.

Of course he should have came back

Read the OP, there is a direct quote from him about what was being sold when he entered the program.

Coach O has gotten much much much much better players than will Clapp to return to school since then.

It's not so arbitrary.
It is helpful in assessing current claims of unexpected loss of underclassmen to the the draft AND in assessing Orgeron's performance at roster management.

Updated Numbers

Underclassmen declaring early since 2013(not including this year yet). So this also doesnt include the guys that straight up just quit this year

lsu 42
Bama 32
Florida 31
Ohio St 29
Clemson 27

LSU has averaged 6 a year since leading everyone since 2013

Coach O has averaged 5 underclassmen leaving a year. This isnt taking into account he lost 4 starters who quit this year

There is no article that easily tabulates the data before 2013

Feel free to go track the earlier years

Coach O has averaged losing 5 underclassmen a year, add the 4 starters that quit this season and he is averaging 6, which is exactly in line with Les

Definitely. I was by no means taking a dig at Brennan.

Well, considering Chase, Shelvin, Marshall, Farrell and Vincent declared early this season foregoing eligibility, those numbers dont really tell the story either do they?

Update

LSU 19
Bama-15
OSU-14

So Coach O still leading the culture of me at LSU

I will again ask what point you think you're making. No one has argued that all players leave LSU early.
