STFU IDIOT

Bo never faced these offenses while at LSU.
Stop calling me names.
I love Bo Pelini. Hell I'm a huge fan of my DC while playing for LSU, Phil Bennett.
Wait you thought I was just an idiot.
You're mean and wrong.

Not saying you did. But defensive players not making open field tackles isn’t totally on Aranda. Obviously he did fix it.

As a matter of fact I do know about defense. You clearly didn’t watch any games this year. Did you know that Arandas defenses got worse every year he was here? No, of course you didn’t.

Do you know why?
There is a real fundamental reason.
The talent increased.

Watch the Florida game last year. It's on now. Everyone is in position but Florida athletes beat us often.

But something changes in the 3rd quarter, down 28-21. It's Aranda. He's a Defensive genius. And that's not a knock on Pelini.
But if you don't appreciate what he did, it's you.

This guy right fricking here definitely is ready. I got so tired of arandas conservative playcalling last season. Especially against Texas. His defensive playcalling and lack of aggressivness damn near cost us that game.

All you ‘I’ll take the attacking style defense even though we’ll give up some points’ people are gonna be here losing your shite during the season when that exact thing happens

That's all I was getting at. If you're recruiting DBU guys, you're not typically a blitz heavy defense.

To be fair, they weren’t exactly facing similar offenses.

eh, not really. Yeah, some will. Don't care about here though.

I do remember the panic here about our D last year here. I also do remember Aranda's D stepping up at crucial times last year.

Aranda would attack beautifully at times; he was just very judicious about it. Those crucial times were he came through always seemed to be when he went on the attack, temporarily giving up the full 80's Buffalo Bills bend-don't-break D. Giving up over 20 pts. a game along the way.

One can't help but wonder if he would have been just a little less judicious what would it would have looked like.

I don't expect Bo to go full Granthamesque blitz every down. It will be tempered compared to him in the past. But I do believe it will be a far cry from picking spots like Aranda did. We have the DBs to take risks.

Last year [only], Aranda was to defense what Les was to offense. Completely risk adverse 90% of the time.

I'll swap giving up some big plays for far fewer long drives any day. Those long drives last year were miserable. We were great on 3rd downs (6th), but just let our opponents drive from their side of the field constantly. How does that work? Be 101st in 10-20 yd plays given up and 96th in 20-30 yd. plays. He bent too much.

One play of successful 'attack' and those drives stall when they get behind the chains. We all know it, we watched Les' offenses for years.

I liked this quote from Bo in the most recent 225 Magazine: "If we stay healthy, we will be hard to handle". If, as has been rumored, LSU opens up with the Black Bears, it will be interesting how Bo's defense plays against a running game that gutted last year's defense.

The main purpose behind a blitzing defense is to make the QB have to make a quick decision on where to go with the ball. Sure it can give up a big play once in a while with a blown coverage, but it also can create more turnovers for our defense, leading to more opportunities for our offense.

People will hate Pelini too the moment they give up a big play in an important game

LSU fans have had a hard time adjusting to post Les Miles. They are shell shocked & still think that college football is a defensive game.

They will give up points, some times a lot of points. This isn’t 2003 anymore.

I agree.... everyone brings up the way Ole Miss basically shredded our defense last year, BUT they just came off a huge win AT Bama and every year playing Bama the next week will take a toll on humans..... it’s just human nature.

Yeah, it'll result in some scores on us; but hey, Plumlee ran wild anyway. At least when we get TOs, and there will be more, we do something more than 3-n-out and 1:05 off the clock.
The biggest change will be due to the new offense. Every turnover getting 7 points will let games get out of hand quickly.
So, teams will be forced to throw more and allow themselves to be more predictable.

One downside, and we saw it alot last year, teams feel the need to go for it on 4th down alot more.
Bama going for it in the 3rd quarter.
Vandy going for it in the 1st.
Alot harder to defend 4 downs versus 3.

exactly. The biggest win in almost a decade. They had gameplanned all year for Alabama. Excuse Aranda that he didn't have them ready to go against an offense scheme rarely used anymore.
