How about NONE OF THE ABOVE.
If I had a gun to my head, I'd take Gerry DiNardo.
Gerry D had it going (Bring back the Magic) in his first TWO SEASONS then imploded when DB Coach Ron Case left to be on Mack Brown's Staff at North Carolina, followed by DC/DL Coach Carl Reese departing to join Jon Mackovic at Texas. (That was his "Nail in the Coffin.")
DiNardo then proceeded to go insane in hiring the replacements and the rest is history because his Ego and Stubbornness wouldn't allow him to fix those hiring mistakes. (Not even going to mention the names of the incompetent coaches that he brought in.

I loved Les Miles. We were usually in the hunt, made the big game a couple times, and just deciphering his quotes was like a new puzzle.
But I do admit I was mad at his affoense his last couple years and didnt know his reputation with the coeds was a hidden problem...

It’s amazing to see how time has changed the perception of Brady.
When he was the HC at LSU he was an acerbic a-hole who was just as apt to finish dead last as he was win the league. He bristled at any criticism. I’ll always remember his postgame press conference after a win over Ole Miss when he grandstanded after a comeback win where his team scored 10 fricking points in the first half! Like he had accomplished some major feat.
LSU reaching the Final Four under Brady is possibly the greatest anomaly in the history of LSU sports. So what did he do? Immediately piss off Bertman by trying to leverage the NC State job for a raise. This, despite the fact he could and maybe should have been fired several times in the 8 years prior. He argued that LSU didn’t appreciate him…then promptly took a preseason top 10 team to last place in the SEC. Even on the day he was fired he was stunned LSU had the audacity to do so.
He’s mellowed in his years away from coaching. And the fact he has returned to be a part of the program is almost as surprising as the Final Four run. There was no love lost for LSU when he was told to leave.

Lou tepper. If he just has six years, he could implement his defense. Even wrote a book on how to teach linebackers.
On a serious note. You think last year's defense was bad. His was even worse. Was like the other team played against kindergartners.

Jerry Stovall. Had 4 up-and-down seasons but he was building a program. I think he red-shirted all of the freshmen (at least the linemen) his last season and had them commit to the strength-training program, which was just starting to evolve. He wanted to follow Nebraska’s model, which was cranking out some physical OL-DL.
It hurt that season but we wound up with a very strong replacement.

quote:I forget who the guy he had at Linebacker was when he made his name, but yeah- basically, you needed an All Pro athlete to play drop linebacker. Otherwise, the drop LB was too far out in space, and to one side, to do anything against the run, unless it was a sweep towards him; and too tight (and slow) to cover any of the guys in routes.

We never had "that guy" when he was here, but we did on occasion afterwards.

Think it was Thomas dunson. His forty time was the speed of smell. I was at the Georgia game when Quincy Carter torched us. Was my first night game in death valley. On the way home, everyone wanted to tar and feather tepper. He was dinardos downfall.

Lou Tepper was not as bad as 2023’s defense. 2023 total defense was 104th in the nation. Tepper was real bad his first year. The total defense was something like #90 in year one then about 42nd in the nation the following year despite one of the worst offenses we’ve ever had and the defense never got a break.
The 2023 defense had a great offense to back them up and allow them to catch their breath.

Ed Orgeron— He needed to go, but by saying,”Geaux Tigers” at the end of interviews, didn’t he start the trend of coaches often saying,”Go team” at the end of interviews? I heard the Georgia baseball coach even saying that yesterday.
Basketball— Harry Rabenhorst and Pokey Chatman.
Baseball—Smoke Laval. An interesting character.
