Orgeron was not a good coach. He hit the lottery with 2019 and the stars aligned, how history says he was not a good coach.

Well at LSU Orgeron was a better coach than Brian Kelly.

Brian Kelly was hired by……finish the sentence for me….

Mulkey didn’t want to come home. She was dissatisfied with Baylor not fulfilling their promises.

That is not what she said.

She wanted to come home because her elderly mother needed her and she wanted be close to home.

Skip ?????

I don’t know why you questioned anything because Skip was a shitty A.D.. He’s not far from the very bottom. The problem with all the youth on this board is they don’t recognize what a good AD is and what a bad A.D. really is.
Here is a ranking from best during my time to worst.
1. Bob Broadhead - Skip, Sue Gunter, Bill Arnsbarger, Sam Seemes T&F who won a title and led the way for Henry; made Tigers 501(c) for donations (Tigers Unlimited predecessor to TAF)

2. Paul Dietzel - D-D Breaux. hired Bo Reign and lsu had to basically rush and hit coach Stovall. but didn’t force out Coach Mac soon enough. Terrible financially though. BUT he started the predecessor of TAF.

3. Carl Maddox - really brought improvements to sports including integration and buildings.

4. Joe Dean - TAF, Pat Henry (arguably the GOAT of coaches at LSU), technically Saban but we know the story.

5. Skip Bertman - let Saban and Pat Henry walk. Hired Smoke on a business deal. Hired Les Miles and Paul Mainari was kind of a make up.

6. Joe Alleva

7 Scott. Woodward

Joe Dean was determined not to spend any money on anything. You have no idea. The budget to hire assistant coaches was the lowest of all the major schools. There was a long list of items the athletic department would not pay for.
When athletes were due a reimbursement LSU would not fully reimburse them for expenses. It goes in and on.

Orgeron was 5-5 playing all SEC teams during the covid year in 2020, after some key players opted out. I will always take that into consideration. Plus his QB got hurt and he played true freshman. That was because the QB room was practically emptied when Joe Burrow arrived. Out of 1000 times I would take Burrow 1000 times and the heck on who leaves.

Better than dick nose. Good at some things. Not great at others. Got a little too big for his britches then FAFO.

He still has a long way to go to surpass what Skip Bertman accomplished as the LSU baseball coach.

The answer is a little complex. Woodward was actually one of the better ones. LSU has had a poor history with AD’s. “In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king”.

In the 2 biggest financial sports ( football and men’s basketball), he flopped. There may be some explanations but he still flopped.

The rest of the sports at LSU, saw incredible success. He hired 3 coaches that won 4 national championships in 4 years.

I am old enough to remember. Alleva, Dean and Maddox were bad.

Broadhead had some great hires but micromanaged and ticked everyone off. Skip hires were unimpressive but he enormously significant in transforming from a backwards failing state run athletic department into the modern TAF successful one we see today.

Kim wanted to come home( Hammond native)

Kim was happy at Baylor and didn’t want to leave. Kim raised a lot of money for the new basketball arena, and she had a disagreement with the school when it decided to change its location off campus. But she had no intention of leaving and said no multiple times.

Kim, Woodward, and DD Breaux have all said LSU was relentless in its pursuit of Kim. So the line that she was an easy layup for Woodward is not based in fact at all.

I hate that Woodward gave Kelly that dumbshit contract and meddled so much in the football program, but you can’t play both sides. As AD Woodward gets credit for all the hires or none of them, good or bad.

Alleva hired a NC winning football coach and an SEC champion mend basketball coach.
I’ll give him the Will Wade hire but he also failed with the Johnny jones, along with Fargas hire but are we gonna sit here and forget the clown show that unfolded with Les’s departure and the Jimbo/herman saga? He lucked out with that. Not to mention the whole Duke lacrosse events and how he handle the athletes there. Should’ve never been hired after that saga.

According to the rumors Sully accepted. LSU found something in the back ground check and backed out.

Sterphanie Rimpf had more to do with Jay coming to LSU than that miniature Fred Flintstone!

baseball and WBB are minor sports - it's all about football and, to a far lesser extent, MBB.

And Woodward failed miserably on both hires, with awful long-term contracts.

He didn't learn a thing from his atrocious Jimbo contract at A&M. Woodward was a terrible failure here.

Wasn’t really a background check. The husband of his affair partner burned himself and his kids alive inside their house. That’s what made us backtrack. If that doesn’t happen he is absolutely our next coach.
