LSU has struggled down the stretch. Even the games LSU won have been very very close.

Many of the games they have lost have been close too. 5-4 twice in the tournament. 14-13 in extra innings. 8-6 to Auburn. Apart from the Georgia win in extra innings, all the other wins since the Auburn have been by 3+. That’s not really close in baseball.

Honestly, I’m not seeing it with Clemson. They closed strong because they had already been swept by Wake Forest and they avoided playing Virginia and Miami. They had 5 series losses, including getting swept by UCF. The committee may be swayed by their RPI, but I don’t think they push them ahead of LSU.

I’m not really going to try to predict what the committee will do. Their choices typically aren’t fully consistent. Here’s what I think it should be.

1) Wake Forest
2) Arkansas (played tougher conference schedule than Florida)
3) Florida
4) Vanderbilt (2 extra conference wins vs LSU)
5) LSU (Fewer series losses than ACC teams behind them)
6) Virginia (Swept Miami and slightly better record vs ACC/SEC at 20-12 vs 22-14)
7) Miami
8) Clemson (Falls back for reasons noted above.)

This is all SEC and ACC. The committee will probably break it up with Stanford and/or Oklahoma St. They most likely displace Virginia and Miami.

9) Oklahoma St
10) Stanford
11) SC (Fewer series losses than Kentucky and Alabama. Series win over Clemson vs series loss to SLU for Auburn.)
12) Kentucky (Helped by sweep of Indiana St)
13) Auburn
14) W Virginia
15) Boston College
16) Alabama

That’s 8 for the SEC and 5 for the ACC. The committee probably replaces BC and an SEC team with Indiana St. and Coastal Carolina. East Carolina could displace WVU as well.

Thinking this makes for some super regional subplots… 8 at 1; 7 at 2; 6 at 3; and 5 at 4. I would love to see LSU advance to Omaha over clemson… Geaux Tigers

If Clemson is the #4 seed and LSU is the #5 seed, you do realize they wouldn’t meet until the first game in Omaha right? We would be matched with #12 in the Super Regional.

You are probably correct. I can't select another team over an SEC team without looking like a fool though. I'll let the committee handle that part.

D1 baseball's latest projection has the same 16 as i do with the exception of south Carolina removed and Boston College in their place.

The actual rankings aren't all that close to mine though.

Just for comparison:

South Carolina- 39-19 (16-13)
SOS- 4
RPI- 8
Q1 - 18-15

Boston College - 35-18 (16-14)
SOS- 31
RPI- 18
Q1- 13-14

Just not to have 8 SEC teams you have to make this type of reach.

Yeah no way the committee gives all the top 8 seeds to the SEC and ACC. I think OK State may sneak in with a win today.

The thing is that SC comes out favorable to the other SEC teams vying for the last spots in this kind of comparison as well. SC and Auburn have 5 series losses, while Kentucky and Alabama have 6. SC won a series against Clemson, Kentucky against Indiana St and Auburn against Indiana and USC, while Auburn lost a series to SLU and Alabama against Columbia. If you combine conference record, tournament record and the good/bad nonconference series for each, Kentucky is 19-15, SC 19-16, Auburn 21-18, and Alabama is 18-18. If you look at it, SC should be at the top of these 4 and Alabama should easily be the last one in. If the SEC only gets 7 hosts, Bama is the team who should be displaced.

Something I didn't realize until Kendall Rogers mentioned it this morning. Indiana State's AD is on the selection committee. Have to wonder if that gives them a push for one of the final host sites.

Also of note, John Cohen's term expires after this season so the SEC will have a new representative than his arse on the committee.

I'm 16/16 on host sites.

I'm going to dig deep and try to nail the numbers in a bit. SEC got 8, which is surprising. Maybe the committee isn't going to be dumb this year. It makes me reconsider my 7-8. Not sure if I can keep Oklahoma St there.

I am hoping that “only” 4 ACC teams getting bids indicates they aren’t so high on the conference they would push them ahead of LSU. SC and Kentucky both getting host sites also shows they aren’t overweighting recent performance as much as some thought they might.

Guys we’re gonna be a top 8 seed. That’s a done deal. The question with this team is do we hit when 47 lefties come out of the pen. Nothing else stops us from Omaha. Once there all bets are off

Those 4 are really the only 4 deserving. I guess you could argue a Boston College and Duke deserve it more than the little guys, but they weren't separated from them like the SEC teams were.

I don't think Kentucky is good at all. But for UK not to get a host site would have been the screw job of the century. I thought maybe SC would have been the SEC team to get whacked if they didn't want to give them 8, but surprisingly they did.

I don’t necessarily disagree with that, but those were also the “big” series wins for Clemson during their current run. Today was the first game in the streak that was against one of the ACC teams who are hosting. The committee may not be as impressed with that run as some are thinking they might. Add in timing not impact Kentucky and SC and the overall body of work favors LSU over Clemson.

All I’m worried about is being paired up with the Auburn, Bama or A&M regional and I feel certain we will get one of them

If they give more weight to recent performance, yes. Overall, they have 5 series losses and got swept twice. They are 2-5 on the weekend against host teams. LSU is 10-6. Clemson has 2 bad series losses (Ga Tech and UCF) to one for LSU (Miss St). LSU’s overall body of work is better.
