When Gavin Guidry returns, do y'all think we may see Cowan make a move to weekend starter?

I just feel like he's too talented to not end up a weekend starter, unless both of the other two starters reach their potential.
I know he's valuable as a reliever, but I feel like either him or Guidry could move into the weekend starter role, with the other remaining a reliever.

Too early to tell. I like him in the late middle relief spot currently. Brings my elevated heart rate back down after our starters shite the bed

The kids electric as middle relief let’s see what happens.

This game tonight proves why you need him in the pen. If this stays tight and he’s able to get 12 outs, that’s super valuable to have.
This is the SEC. There will be games when our starter gets chased early (kinda like tonight). To have someone who can go 3-4 shutout innings in relief is a HUGE benefit to this team.
And then, come SEC and NCAA tourney time, we will need a 4th starter who we can rely on, and he will certainly play himself into that mix.

I honestly think the only reason he wouldn’t, is because you may need to use him to secure victory in relief on Friday.

What makes you think this? Hes a one pitch pony. No one is scared of his straight 89 mph fastball.
Like Guidry, but he’s not Mariano. Cowan gives you a ton of coverage in his role

How effective is Guidry going to be after missing the last 3 months????
I mean… our fans think he’s going to be the same pitcher he was down the stretch last year on day one of his return. It’s going to take him time to ramp up.

With all due respect I don’t think Guidry will be the savior Tigerdroppings expects him to be

Seems like he has the Herring role this year

Honestly I don’t even care if he’s good. He’s worth an inning or two each series just for the gifs.

I like Guidry in specific situations. 2 on no outs, 1 on 1 out kinda stuff. Then follow with Benge, Evans, etc to start a new half inning
Cowan is our Friday long relief guy and that’s not changing anytime soon

No. We have starters who won’t always eat up 5+ innings. It’s a luxury have more than one reliever who can bolster them if they struggle a bit.

How are people not realizing what a luxury to only use 2 pitchers in the 1st game of a series. You gotta keep Cowan piggybacking Anderson. You set your bullpen up for the rest of the weekend when you use a starter (Anderson) and Cowan in game 1

I think he can give us a third reliable guy out the pen which would be pretty big

I like to think about what we need to get to Omaha. You need a regional (3 wins) and super regional (2 wins).
Most efficient at least.
Regional:
If you are a 1 seed (which I would hope we would be, otherwise this entire conversation is likely moot) then you throw Shores game 1 or maybe even a combination of Schmidt, Rizy and some of your other lesser used arms.
Win the catbird seat game using Anderson and Cowan.
Then win 1 out of 2 with Eyanson, Guidry, Evans.
You have guys like Benge and Ware and maybe even Meyers that could play roles day 1. Could free up Schmidt to start a winner take all if you lose game 3.
Super regional:
Game 1. Anderson & Cowan
Game 2. Eyanson & Evans
You have so many options to eat innings if you are down several runs. I believe Schmidt, Guidry and one the group of Ware, Benge and Rizy will be important.
If some of these guys stop with the walks, this becomes so much fun to think about. Our offense is already pretty damn good to keep us in games as you saw tonight.

One pitch? Try again

I haven't even counted on Guidry being an effective option this season. They keep putting his return back week after week. Will he be effective, and will he be able to pitch every weekend? It's still a mystery.
