re: When Gavin Guidry returns, do y'all think we may see Cowan make a move to weekend starter?

Agreed, not sure where all the hype comes from. Unfair expectations for the kid.

What makes you think Guidry will play? I am not saying he won’t but this whole deal is weird. Seems like there is more going on than they are saying.

How effective is Guidry going to be after missing the last 3 months?

I agree. Guidry probably will not contribute this season.

Moscona has a scout buddy that says Guidry has had a setback

"Scout buddy" with the real obvious info there.

I think you have to give the starting rotation another 3 weeks to get it figured out before thinking of moving anyone from the pen as a starter. After another 3 weeks if Shores is struggling to get through 4 then I think you have to entertain Cowan as a starter.

Cowan would likely be a very good weekend starter. He has successful experience with that. It’s likely he could give up runs early because that’s when teams are most likely to execute their plans. Probably hunt the 90-92 MPH fastball. Spit on the rest. In that scenario, he will definitely have some really good outings. It’s just as likely he’ll get knocked around some outings.

IMO Guidry is not a starter. He can give opposing players fits with his hard slider. But after they see it and if he can’t spot his fastball and or change up for quality strikes, two times through is probably too much to ask. Definitely not 3 times through against SEC hitting.
