Brad Cresse was the best hitting catcher, but he was a mediocre defensive catcher. Pap was the best defensive catcher, but was very inconsistant at the plate and was benched both his sophomore and junior year because his hitting was so bad. Cade S was really good offensively and defensively for his senior year and was ok as a junior.
Michah Gibbs was really good offensively and defensively for his entire career, so I would say he was the best.

Ryan Jorgensen was the best catcher to play at LSU.
He would be my choice as well. An excellent defensive catcher who hit over .300 and had some pop.
I think Skip recognized Jorgensen was the best catcher on the roster so it allowed Cresse to DH some and the rest allowed him to accumulate some monster stats.
Of course, when they got to Omaha Skip went with Cresse behind the plate and had Wally doing the DHing.

What’s your best catcher...that ever played at LSU
Gibbs part of the song starts at 1:12 and lasts about 15 seconds

I remember when he was struggling at False River.

Worst catcher would be Bryce Jordan.
Bryce Jordan looked like Benito Santiago or JohnnyBench compared to Jordan Romero.

But hit a lead off homer in 1997 CWS final if I recall. Wrapped around the LF pole. Don’t hate too much bro.
Replying to the hating Danny Higgins comment for being last out of 1998.

Worst- Ross

Hymel and Cresse were not good catchers. Both were great hitters, but not that good defensively. Osik was moved from ss to catcher because Hymel struggled so much behind the plate.

Hymel was the college World Series most oustanding player and all tournament Catcher for our first title in 1991. Hymel played 244 games at catcher in the minor leagues, only 32 at first base. Osik wasn’t even on the 91 team.

I was mesmerized by how hard Gary Hymel threw the ball back to the pitcher every time. I used to tell my dad I swear it was harder than the pitcher was throwing. He had gorilla ball skills.

I don’t guess you remember Gibbs’ first two years on campus.

Matt Liuzza was a douche bag. That's all I got.
Can only assume that he banged your girlfriend??

Was it Ty Ross arguing with the umpire in Omaha? That would be my favorite.

So you’re saying it’s impossibke that he improved from his Jr. to Sr. Season? He was good enough to play catcher at the next level so he must not have been as bad as you’re claiming.
