I thought to myself that “maybe the light came on.” I didn’t envision what would transpire. I knew he/“we” were different after 3rd & 17. Believe me, I had seen that movie way too many times before. I traveled to Nashville to see the Vandy game. My wife asked me what I thought when leaving the stadium. I told her they were like a video game and I didn’t know how anyone was gonna defend him.

I thought we’d be good in 2019 but not the GOAT team.

In 2018, the first game against Miami in Dallas, Tx. I knew we had a very, very good QB. The first game in 2019, I knew we had an offense that was different, not even close to anything ever run before, at LSU.
Look at the numbers against Ga. Southern.

The A&M ref game really gave me hope with Burrow. Bad officiating but he kept coming at them.

I have a number of friends that played and coached at aTm, they all agreed we got screwed. I told them next season, whatever the line is, take the Tigers, payback is going to be hell. LSU was favored by 17, easy money. In fact if you took the Tigers that season, 11-4. Easy money.

This is an interesting item you pointed out and I know it derails the thread, but....

I've often wondered when watching the SEC blatantly fix games how players and coaches handle it. You know they know what is happening. The coaches know they get fined when they point it out. It has to be crushing for the players knowing they are risking injury in a rigged college game. Of course now many are well compensated, but still...

For example, I would love to know what players and coaches that were part of 2006 Auburn were saying during that game. Or any one of the many Bama games that were blatantly fixed (not just LSU but other teams as well).

A good friend, that works within the Athletic Department told me, they knew something was up. They wanted another rivalry game at the end of the season. They tried the Arkansas game with the boot, playing Friday after Thanksgiving. Nothing seemed to work. He said this was setup. My aTm friends believe much of the same. One of my friends coached at 4 SEC schools, talked at length about what transpired during that game.

It is pretty obvious professional refs, especially NFL, do their best to "manufacture drama" during games.

SEC refs just flat out can't help themselves when it comes to being pretty obvious about what they are doing. Sometimes it is beyond hilarious to watch it go down.

Well yeah, they basically changed a written rule to give them one extra play.....

Then they called a player down that obviously fumbled and LSU recovered but did not replay it. (aTm's TE caught a pass, ran two yards, was hit, fumbled and LSU recovered in the second or third OT. The aTm player knew he fumbled bc he pounded the ground and didn't want to get up....until the ref told him he bailed him out)
Then a BS PI, and another one I can't remember.

It was clear what the SEC was doing at the end of that game and they got the result they wanted.

I just remember thinking it's amazing were doing this playing DBs at WR. Or was it WRs at DB?

I forget but I remember us being shorthanded and coming off the A&M game we won like 3 times it made me feel frickin good about 2019. They surpassed my wildest dreams tho.

Honestly before 3rd and 17 happened, earlier in the first half against Texas, burrow threw a touchdown between two defenders to hit Jefferson in the back of the end zone. I believe it was on 3rd or 4th down. But that moment it hit my that I am seeing something different. 3rd and 17 just solidified it further for me.

It was a few games into 2019 when it hit me that we could be watching the best LSU team ever.
Joe Brady was responsible for elevating Joe Burrow with "Da Joe Brady Offense" that him getting the ball out of his hand very fast, so the mediocre OL didn't have hold their blocks too long. (And that's exactly what Sloan better be doing with Nussmeier this season)

Big salutations once again to Bill Busch (LSU Safety coach back then) for pulling Burrow out of Ohio.

I started to get excited on 3rd and 17 but refused to give in to the hope that early.

At halftime in Alabama, I became a true believer, that unless something remarkably stupid and unlucky happened, we were going to win it all, and Burrow was going to win the Heisman. By the end of the game I just felt I had confirmation.

The Auburn and UGA game the year prior showed me that the “it” factor was there.

After the fall when you really started to hear just how good the offense could be, that’s when it took off.

Beating Texas in Austin showed everyone that we were one of the 3 best teams in the country at the time

I was thinking, “Man, neither of these teams can defend the pass even a little bit.”

We had Neatherlh starting as I recall.

That was the game that gave me confidence that LSU would be outstanding in 2019. When Burrow got off the ground after that hit on the interception and led LSU back for the win, I knew this team could be special. After the game, my nephew predicted a national championship the next year and he was right on target. LSU defeated seven teams ranked in the Top 10 in 2019 and no other team comes close to that. GOAT

I was expecting another NY6 season going into 2019. I was expecting losses to Texas and Bama.
