Least favorite thing: Notre Dame

The buy games are boring, but they're necessary and contribute to the viability of those smaller programs.

Football is entertainment. The entertainers are the ones I tune in to watch. Everyone else has their snout in the trough; I'm not sure why anyone would expect the "punks" to want any less than anyone else in this scenario.

Pick a SoS formula

Srength of schedule in college football is really quite tough to quantify with accuracy. In the NFL it's easier, because there are only 32 teams in the league and 16 games, each team plays a large percentage of the rest of the league every year. So the SOS is fairly accurate in this scenario.

But in college, there are 128 teams and, with only 12 games (most of them in-conference), there's VERY LITTLE crossover games. So, to me, the SOS in college is highly inaccurate. Maybe within a particular conference the SOS can be more accurate, but nationwide, among the many different conferences and 128 teams, SOS doesn't mean much to me.

The excessive money involved that is ruining it like it ruins every other aspect of life.

Because no one pays to watch John Doe play football; they pay to watch LSU (or Bama, Notre Dame, Oregon, etc.). Who is wearing the jersey is irrelevant; the school on the jersey is why people buy tickets and tune in (and why networks pay billions to televise it). The decades of branding, marketing and building these programs is where the money is made.

There are guys playing ball in parks and fields across the country every day; CBS isn't paying a bunch of money to televise those games. Put them on the Michigan and Ohio State teams, though, and 100k+ people will pay money to squeeze into a stadium to watch, and CBS will break down the door to pay a bunch of money for the TV rights.

Yes, I'm aware of that. However, if we settle on one formula, however inaccurate, it will still be fair so long as everyone has the same opportunity to evaluate its inaccuracies and respond to them accordingly. That's why it is so important that any implementation of or change to the policy have a 4 or 5 year delay.

Ditto for the overall ranking formula/algorithm. So long as it is public knowledge and set in stone far in advance, it will still be fair while being 100% objective.

Gotta have some cupcake games to fine tune your team i really dont mind them.

FYI, the cupcake LSU plays this week has over a dozen former FBS players who transferred in; mostly at the skill positions. These guys are averaging 95 plays per game. Ought to be a good workout for the Tigers young guns.

The knowledge that the "ESPNization" of CFB will eventually lead to a 16 game tournament, rendering the regular season and conference championships meaningless, and ironically will have all the same ESPN jackasses who campaigned for a large playoff waxing rhapsodic for the good old days when it was a vote.

This, exactly.

not sure I agree with this. as others have said in this thread, the regular season isn't meaningless in the nfl. the teams that make the playoffs were the best teams over the course of the entire season. 1 loss didn't blow their chances at the playoffs.

Of course it is. Just like NBA and CBB. When the entire focus of the reg season is just to get to the playoff, it diminishes those games.

I'm not saying I have some grand solution, but I am saying those talking heads on ESPN and goobs on sites like this will never be happy.

There is a long, long, LONG list of things that annoy me far beyond anything that remotely approaches the game played on the field, so cupcake games are not even on the top half of my list. The media, polls, lawsuits by moneygrubbing punks who don't give a damn about college sports and are willing to ruin it just to try and snatch some cash they don't deserve, moneygrubbing rich guys who don't give a shite how much they ruin the sport to get what they want, more of the moneygrubbing rich guys who want to claim they are "donors" when in fact they refuse to give a dime unless they get special rewards and treatment, hysterical dipshits who think every time a college athlete commits a crime it is proof that the entire system of collegiate athletics is broken/dysfunctional/responsible/pure evil/whatever, mean-spirited jackasses on message boards who enjoy pissing off other people for their own amusement, greedy jackasses running message boards who enjoy sponsoring the aforementioned mean-spirited jackasses for their own profit, dumbass fans who think they are "special" because they can drop buzzwords like "Tampa-2" or "1-technique" or "hip rotation" into their posts, even more dumbass fans who think their use of buzzwords means they know better than the coaches, and especially asinine LSU fans who are so worried about other people calling them "whiners" or "homers" that they shite all over their own team and fans and everything else and especially refuse to call out referees for screwing up and costing LSU games.

King Joey!

son, methinks you could use a break. be nice to yourself and focus on the games themselves and leave out all of the "noise" you mentioned. I agree with just about everything on your list but damn man, it's just not worth it. people are people. the game is just sso big now. I quit paying attention to this periphial shite years ago and my enjoyment factor has gone up a lot. I do think that the game announcers have improved a lot DURING THE GAME. I make it a point to not watch any pre game hype (shite), halftime hype (shite), espn shows, sec network shows; all shite, shite, shite good luck your excellency.
