Aggies do not threaten civilization as we know if, nor pose a clear and present danger to anybody.
I think its very weird and doesn't suit my tastes, but they could not care less about outside approval.
What they are doing is preserving traditions, which, over time appear strange and anachronistic. But preserving traditions preserves the longevity of institutions. Oh, BTW it helps them raise HUGE amounts of money that LSU can only wonder at. The stuff said over the mic about App State was stupid and their yell leaders all seem to adopt effeminate gaits and gestures, but the rest of the stuff is just harmless tradition.
LSU could learn a thing or two from others about preserving traditions. For many under 30 year old fans, they think Neck is the most important tradition.

Their collective fan base seems to have a -golly gee willikers/Leave it to Beaver- type vibe to it. They're so weird yet they also seem so harmless that I sometimes feel bad making fun of them

At some point the authorities need to get involved.
I'm honestly incredibly disturbed at the moment that this exists. When they play Bama this year, I will actually be the biggest Bama fan on planet earth. I don't give a shite. Someone please help me - I am not sleeping tonight with this on my mind. I'm literally freaking out

Not an aggie, but they think it's cringe.
Though let's not discount the aggies. When I say normal here I'm talking about the kind of person who is choosing between A&M, Rice, Texas, etc. and decides that A&M is the right school for them. They'll probably be forced to go to one and think it's awful. There are still tens of thousands of aggies who would never consider another school, are legacies, etc., and they love it. They consistently fill up to the upper deck for a reason.
Anyway, don't be surprised if the story part of it goes away before too long with all the attention it's getting. It really feels like something that was only allowed because only people in the A&M sphere knew about it.

I had always just assumed they got together at 12am the night before and just yelled really loud for a like 20 seconds and then left, that is until I saw that video.
I am absolutely shell shocked and cannot believe that is real.
You've never heard of a pep rally?

I’m not an Aggie, but what I think of it is this: it’s a great, unique tradition of the type that makes college football, and college life, fun. It’s wholesome, in a 1950’s sort of way, and for some reason, it attracts the ire (probably jealousy) of the kind of people who should like it.
It’s lame as frick, but I do give them credit for throwing caution to the wind and saying shite that would get other people cancelled
And I’m also not shocked that your liberal fruitcake self would think it’s ‘great’

I don't know, man, this looks like something more than a little good-natured, locker room towel snapping to me.
I appreciate the tradition thing, truly, and all schools have strange and oftentimes weird traditions from their lore.
Coming from a mil family, I also appreciate that 8&4 is a Marine feeder school with more Cadets and ROTCs around than anyone except VMI and places like that, and that includes Auburn and V Tech, and that all plays into this strangeness.
That said, this is a straight up weird and gay looking tradition I simply do not understand.

You have to get in the heads and the context of the avg Aggie Freshmen, where this grooming begins.
Typically these are very smart kids whose social development was cooked in giant
TX high school in the pressure-cooker, valedictorian or top 10% of class segment, where their parents value academic achievement and all things that make little Johnny and Suzy feel socially accepted. Instilled is Winning life with the brain, resting atop their life’s values. The large TX HS social strata requires a bubble to achieve this. They thrive in this bubble by centering their competitiveness around their brains. In doing so, they find social safe haven in a network of others who are similar. Similarity is a key word. Together, they develop their own social acceptance norms, where what appears to be awkward to most is accepted and celebrated as is their similarity.
Stopping here for now but these are key ingredients in what gets exploited and exponentially scaled up at Aggie proportions.

Lot of frightened homophobes in this thread.
I like making fun of Aggies as much as anybody, but nobody should feel personally threatened or the need to call the authorities.
Some of you guys are scarier than 8&4 yell leaders.

This, I watched the NC-App state game and that stadium was rocking, beautiful place in the mountains with plenty of sweaty coeds in the crowd. It actually looks like a fun place to go. Collège station and A&M on the other hand look like they're straight out of a dystopian novel ala 1984.
