& the addition of Alex Atkins to help with the run game
Why did we need to hire another Coach to come in and "Help" with the Run Game?

Why don't we have an Offensive Line Coach that can produce a decent run game on his own. (The RB's are certainly "Good Enough.")

Unproven, but also did him no favors with terrible run blocking.

Hopefully O-line figured that out this year
"Terrible Run Blocking" even with 4 OL starters back in the lineup (And ALL 4 NFL draft picks) is the sign of a "Coaching Problem."

The new OL Starters aren't going to just "Figure it Out" for themselves.............

Until he proves otherwise, he’s the biggest liability on the coaching staff.

Yes he was amazing as a QB coach with his development of JD, but his playcalling as a first year OC was questionable at best. He was not very creative and overly predictable.

He has done a great job of developing QBs.
When was the last time we have had succeeding QBs mentioned for Heisman.
Sloan!

What drives me insane is that we can't get a play call in ,it's always late. How many wasted timeouts with confusion or a player shifting and we're late in the clock .

Is this Sloan or Kelly debating a call?

Also, the position coaches need to be ready with personnel groups when the call is made. The RBs specifically. There were some head scratchers last year between the call (Sloan) and who was sent into the game (Position Coaches)

Make or break year. We look like we did last year in multiple games and we will be searching for a new OC.

As they should. Sloan wasn't anywhere close to ready.

I'm just praying Atkins is really allowed to help with the overall offense. It's been said he has put In some new wrinkles.

4th and inches run play out of shotgun; or

3rd and short run play…don’t get it…hurry up to the line run it again on 4th and get stuffed.

That’s what kills me.

My thoughts are I hope he has worked to add a running game to this offense…either personally or by finding someone on the staff to perform those duties.

I think Sloan can and will grow showing better results from the booth. He has had since January to review his own film and tendencies of what worked, didn’t work, etc.

Additionally Alex Atkin will be a resource for him and hopefully they are consulting each other on play calling.

The overall run scheme appears extremely weak to this novice, arm chair fan/coach.

Agree. I think it’s a scheme thing although I am not knowledgeable enough to explain it. It wasn’t just last year. Even at the end of ‘23 when JD5 was running wild on his way to a Heisman, the RBs averaged less than 4 ypc when he played teams with a decent defense. Also, there seemed to be times where Sloan fell into a pass-run-pass sequence. But let’s be fair: LSU was one of the best third down teams in the country last year and the best on 3rd and more than 7. I don’t want to act like he was bad at everything.

A lot of the struggles in the run game had to do with our lack of a deep threat in the pass game. This allowed an extra defender to involved in the run fit and the run game cannot be effective when you have 6 guys trying to block 7. Emory and Chester were also bad in the run game. Got whipped consistently.

I don't really get this take.

Kelly has been a head coach for three decades, he knows how to evaluate assistants at this point.

He didn't hesitate to fire House, so he is willing to fire guys. He knows they're going all in to win this year and they also didn't land Underwood.

If Sloan was actually "pretty bad", don't you think Kelly would've replaced him this offseason?

This is an easy one for me. If Sloan doesn't implement a Wildcat QB package like the vast majority of football teams has done for a change of pace and obvious situations, he isn't much of an OC. LSU has the perfect player to be that QB for several plays a game...Johnson. LSU is years and years behind in not having that extra aspect to their offense.
________

I am fine with trying to use Johnson's talent, but don't see the logic of making this the primary criteria to measure Sloan.

Sloan needs to build on the success in the passing game, improve the running game, and be better in the red zone. He can't be as predictable on 2nd. Not sure a single criteria can measure an OC.
