What in this picture discredits? Taking nothing away from Paul, it’s stupid to compare the two as the landscape is different this year compared to 2008.

And this was because he didn’t recruit at all. I don’t think Dunn recruited either, pretty sure it was squarely on Cain. I remember reading an article where CPM was taking about a player and he said he was bigger than he thought when he got to campus… that sounds like he didn’t even know the kids that were being brought in.

He became complacent, which was probably because he was worn out. Naptime also mentioned some things about the previous coaching staff not using any of the technology that they had available for training. I don’t think they really cared for the spin rate/ launch angle era of baseball.

Add noot, Taylor and shores to this pitching staff and we have one of the deepest staffs in the nation. JJ did one hell of a job improving this team offensively and pitching wise. Injuries are going to derail you every few years, and it certainly happened with our staff. Despite the injuries, we are a top 8 seed and have a shot at Omaha. Once there anything can happen, if we click at the right time. Anybody who questions JJ shouldn't be taken seriously ever again.

Is the argument that Paul didn't do this?

From 2008 to 2017, LSU missed out on a top 8 seed twice.

True but Pulmonary wouldn't have known what the portal was about! Thank God he's gone!

But he was the coach behind 2017. And after losing a regional in 18, 2 and BBQ in SR in 19, how long do we reach back for success?

Where was Paul in year 2?

Omaha

JJ went to the CWS championship in his first year at Arizona. And then he took them there again.

He is still in his 2nd year at LSU, let's see if he gets to Omaha a 3rd time.

He's better than CPM at hitting and scoring. I believe he will be even better at recruiting moving forward.

Sure, but are we seriously acting like Paul didn't position this team to be a top 8 seed?

We're only "reaching back" because we have idiots stupidly feeling the need to compare the two coaches.

It’s dumb to compare. I’ll be the first to say that I don’t like the recent play of the team. Ride or die with the bullpen and Hurd.

08 to 17 Paul and post 2017 Paul were different coaches. It’s not hard to figure out.

What are we trying to figure out?

I was responding to a poster who said Jay is better at positioning his team to a top 8 seed.

That ain’t all bad. I don’t care what a kid’s spin rate is on his slider if he can’t throw it over the plate and get outs. Give me the lefty that throws 88 mph and keeps batters off balance over the kid with the 95 mph fastball and a slider with an unbelievable spin rate that can’t find the strike zone with a map.

In 2021, LSU was 8th in the SEC in batting average..

2023, they were 1st

On the surface that may be so but it should be mentioned that going into '21 after the Covid year we had like 3 players (Gio, Beloso, and Dugas) who had even played in an SEC game.

I would the difference between '21 and '22 was we traded Marceaux, Labas, and Arnold for Berry, Cooper, and Collins and a more experienced squad. '21 actually nade it further than '22.

The real improvement is we're a national seed which we haven't been since '17.

What is funny is outside of Skenes and White, his portal additions have been huge disappoints. On top of that, he had the two middle infielders lined up who went pro at the last minute leaving the infield depth empty. Not great planning but whatever.

Also funny is how PMs guys have kinda outlasted everyone else. Guys like Jobert, Travinski, Dugas and Beloso were after thoughts in the offseason. Edwards was your best reliever and Floyd has out pitched the big name transfers Hurd & Little as SP2.

Johnson had a recruiting class that couldn’t produce any player to add to infield depth. Multiple OF’er & Pitching recruits are “redshirting” & have had zero impact.

I like Johnson, I think better than I did PM, especially at the end. It’s hard to separate the convenience of the portal as a tool to immediately improve. But let’s not get carried away that everything he has touched is gold.

Why do you think you can judge a coaches skill in just 2 regular seasons?

What is it you are expecting? Complete domination like football?

That's such a copycat, overused, out-of-date phrase. At least try a little original thought if you want people to take you seriously.
