Was Nick Brossette more situation aware than the LSU coaches on that last series?

A bizarre sequence of great interest to the betting public played out at the end of the LSU-Arkansas game.
Leading 24-17 and trying to kill the clock, Tigers running back Nick Brossette made a heady decision on his way to the end zone with less than 90 seconds to play. He slid to the turf at the Razorbacks’ 7-yard line instead of trying to score. Arkansas was out of timeouts, and a couple of LSU kneel-down plays would end the game.
But LSU did a strange thing, lining up in a normal formation and attempting to score. Brossette got a handoff and did the same thing — sliding to the turf again, this time at the Arkansas 1-yard line. The Tigers again called a play and again gave the ball to Brossette, and he was stopped for no gain. End of game.
Brossette seemed to handle the situation more intelligently than the LSU coaching staff. The only necessity was running the clock, not scoring. An LSU touchdown would have given Arkansas hope, however slim — score, recover an onside kick and score again.
Beyond that, the Tigers’ insistence on trying to score on the final two plays obviously increased the risk of a fumble in a one-score game. If Ed Orgeron needs to know what can happen while trying to score a meaningless, rub-it-in touchdown, he should consult with Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele — as head coach at Baylor in 2000, Steele ordered a running play at the goal line against UNLV and it resulted in a fumble and 99-yard return for a touchdown with no time remaining for the winning score.
Orgeron also was messing with the gamblers. The line was LSU by 13½, which made that final sequence immensely important. If Brossette scores, the Tigers cover the spread. Very interesting.

Either way, something is fricky about it

Who cares how intelligent the play was. The lack miscommunication between players and coaches is unreal.
Also, we literally never finish drives in the red zone. Just get in there and make it seem like we somewhat won by a decent amount. Just step on the gas for once. Unreal

The scenarios for a no timeout Arkansas team having less than a minute to score twice are ludicrous. There were two much more important earlier plays: not going for the field goal and Vincent's stupid taunting penalty.

I don't assume there was anything corrupt or malicious going on, just Brossette doing the right thing to guarantee the win and the staff trying to look better overall. The time to look good against an 0-season arky is quarters 1-3. Not closing plays of the game. That made the staff look like petty fools.

“Uh, Coach Orgeron, Guice didn’t play because he’s in the NFL.”

And there was no reason for the depleted secondary to have to go defend more deep passes

NB should have gotten in the end zone.

Had LSU been trailing by 1 point, Brossette's move was correct. However, being up 7 then he should have gone in for the touchdown.

Nick made the right call there. O is not a good coach and didn’t realized the only way we could of lost was to score a TD there. Mind you probably under 2 percent chance but two kneel downs and game is over

In this day and age of style points, we needed more points in win against a team with only 2 wins. That is what most voters will see. A 7 point win following a shut out and a game with pretty much only FGs.

If the only important thing was to secure victory, Brosette did the right thing.
If style points matter, he didn’t.

If they drop Tuesday, the entire team can thank him. The committee doesn't look at every game no matter what they say. Covering the spread is the best way to make sure you are respected when rankings are decided under those circumstances.

I have no issue with what he did. We controlled the end of the game and the win. We have seen times when that was not the case. Would I have rather taken a knee? Yes, but it worked!

Per the Rant, the Sharp money was on Arkansas. The line was 13 1/2 points. If he scores a touchdown, the Sharps lose the bet and the betters on LSU win. This smells fishy to me as it was a sure touchdown. Reeks of a fix.

We should have scored and not taken a fall/knee, IMO. We were only 7 points ahead and a TD with so little time left would have ended the game.
Brossette did as he was coached to do. I just think that direction was not what was best for LSU at that point.

Actually, we could have fumbled the snap kneeling the ball as well and they would have only needed 1 score to tie (or win in with a 2-point conversion).
