You should probably pump the brakes until O beats Alabama and at least wins a division title...??
Posted on 10/17/19 at 7:49 am to Madking
So then why did O say he “simply wasn’t the country club guy they were looking for” ??

If you know USC or lived in that area ...
OUTSIDERS are never really let in fully.

Ask him, you do know he resigned from USC right? Nobody fired him or didn’t retain him, he left. Sark even tried to renegotiate his deal in order to keep him.

I thought you were insinuating he turned down a HC offer from SC due to “personal reasons”

Sounds like a statement to help endear himself to those where he is now more than anything.

I didn’t mean personal as in personal conflict between him and someone at USC. Let’s just say it was the wrong place at the wrong time for him.

ETA - props for getting him, but it was luck that he was even available.
Well of course we were lucky he was available, but this is much more common now than ever before. How do we know Orgeron wasn’t being proactive and keeping a close eye out for all QBs announcing transfers? He’s shown a propensity for being proactive. There was work involved. Joe didn’t tell Meyer he was leaving and pick up the phone and call O to say he was transferring in.
SFP didn’t elaborate on what he meant and implied it was all pure dumb luck.

it's still not that common, and OU is the "go to" place for legit QB transfers

other than OU, what teams have gotten transfers from Heisman-contending QB talents who were already developed?

I wonder how his tenure at ole miss would've turned out if he'd punted in the egg bowl and won the game. The next year jevan snead would've been his qb (rather than Houston nutt's) and he probably wins 8 or 9.

Give Coach O his due, man! He identified a problem and addressed it. Yes, Joe “luckily” became available, but Coach O went and actively recruited him and landed him.

Coach O deserves all the credit for what he’s done here but there is a big difference in building a program from scratch than to be given a program on solid footing that needed a few tweaks..

It’s absolutely more common now than ever before though.

You’re bolstering my stance that it was a good job to get him to come to LSU.
Your reply...

Does not address my statement...

Not in the least.

Was he?
I forgot that Burrow wasn't sniffing Heisman pub preseason
I forgot that Joe was a 57.8% passer with 16 TDs in 13 games last year
You're right, Joe just came in fully developed, has not improved here and has not benefited at all from our new offense that directly resulted from decisions made by Coach Ed Orgeron.
Silly me.

And how often is this the case at a blueblood? Plenty of coaches take over at bigtime programs that merely need “a few tweaks” and fail miserably.

Oh I thought Orgeron identified the issue at QB and actively worked to get Burrow onboard with coming to LSU. Didn’t realize Burrow just fell into his lap. Silly me.
O obviously took advantage of the situation and worked to get Burrow in, but it's not often an immediately eligible QB decides AFTER spring ball he wants to leave AND you have a coach on staff (Bush) that has a connection with the family. Of course, much of recruiting is connections, but Burrow becoming available that late was serendipitous for O. We can't deny that.
As to the OP, I don't know if O would have had the same success at USC simply because I don't know if USC would have committed the same level of resources as LSU has. I think we can all agree O absolutely must have great assistants to essentially run BOTH sides of the ball. I don't know if USC would have been willing to commit $2.5 mill per year for a DC PLUS a huge amount to an OC. And that's before the other assistants were paid.
O deserves much, much credit for this season. But the LSU program also has a lot of built in advantages for any coach. Most notably, there is a commitment to spend ridiculous money in order to be great

i ask this, because i don’t know the answer.
were there warning signs of Sark’s problem with alcohol prior to USC hiring him? Did he have any issues up in Washington or when he was on USC’s staff?
because if not, it’s hard to blame them for choosing him.
he’s from LA, he had successful history with USC, he turned a program than went 0-12 the year before he arrived.

Auburn
Ohio State
Alabama
Michigan
Wisconsin
Off the top of my head, even with your ridiculously cherry picked qualifiers. QB free agency is only going to grow, and it's been a thing for quite awhile now.
It's hilarious to watch you try and spin that Burrow isn't actually here by Orgeron's doing because it singlehandedly destroys prettymuch everything you've been saying for three years. Just take the L man.

I think Coach O being from here helps sell the LSU and his own brand. Hard to sell from the bayou in LA.
