You were right, it was always meant as a tool to gain control of the players and leverage them against the programs.

Exactly. Plenty of us said that was the crack in the damn needed for full on pay for play to be implemented. It took less than 5 years for that to happen.
These types of deals are the crack in the damn needed for PE firms to get their hands on CFB. Make no mistake they are eyeing it because it’s an untapped goldmine for those guys. It will start with the mid programs that want to be relevant (Utah) and as their spending increases this big boys will have to up theirs as well.

Perhaps it’s Private equity affiliated with LSU and/or other state institutional endowment funds?
Having Private Equity isn’t necessarily a bad thing until you see the terms and understand the valuation given and path to exit or return on investment.
LSU athletics is not a failing entity that needs/can be broken down and sold for component parts.
Agree with others this is first step towards a class of “ownership”

This is perhaps the most insightful statement here.
You could see how a university endowment fund or large family office with ties to high net worth alumni would be an excellent fit. They can contribute towards success but have a bit more oversight and a return vs just trusting the people you gave the check

The SCOTUS seems to think that you can't artificially decrease labor costs by using the term "amateur sports."
Not paying players is no longer a choice for the NCAA or its members.

MLB revenue: ~$11 billion
NHL revenue: ~$6 billion

The NFL Players Association negotiates compensation with the NFL. owners
The National Basketball Players Association negotiates compensation with the NBA owners.
The Major League Baseball Players Association negotiates compensation with the MLB owners.
The National Hockey League Players' Association negotiates compensation with the NHL owners.
Isn't it about time for college athletes to negotiate compensation with the programs?
It's a trick question because it's happening now without a salary cap or any rules that favor the programs.

If the NCAA wouldn't have been so hard headed and backwards thinking when this started almost 30 years ago and not let it get to the courts it wouldn't be so out of control now
