As to the previous Mikes being on the field.. that was a different time. Right or wrong, it's never going to happen again, but apparently this question will get asked until the end of time.

Times change, people change, science and society progresses....

At one time, people believed the world was flat.

At one time, science thought that bleeding was the best way to treat disease and release the "ill humors" from a body.

At one time, people thought that it was entirely appropriate for one person to own another.

At one time, people thought the plague was the wrath of God descending on a godless people.

At one time, people thought it was fine to keep an adult chimp locked up in a small cage at an amusement park for decades.

At one time, I thought it was completely okay to let my 10 year old son stick his hand into an Orca's mouth and pet his tongue (boy, was THAT stupid!)

on and on and on.

Time progresses, and we move forward. While I enjoyed the atmosphere of having a live tiger in a cage roaring at opposing players when I was young, "old" me knows better now.

Just my opinion, folks. You're entitled to your own.

Start this thread in 2008 and everyone would want Mike on the field before the game.

LSU went with an all out propaganda campaign about why Mike can't go in the stadium anymore and 75% of people swallowed it like good little "free thinkers".

It's a tiger. People need to grow a nutsack.

Actually, there is another large cat on a university campus in Baton Rouge.

All of the “people” who made this decision will be gone soon. I applaud you for your attempt.

You don’t let a vet like LSU has go over the decision to keep Mike off the field. That’s foolish. You can doubt what I’m saying all you want.

If I was Woodward I would bring Mike back for the next game. Last home SEC game of the season. Get the fans excited and stirred up. I’m not Woodward though.

I have met wild animals on and off campus for years, none of which I would adopt as a mascot.
And those are just the women...

LSU had multiple entities reach out willing to provide a live tiger without any certification or designation.

That is correct....HOWEVER...you need read the accounts of the selection and procurement of Mike VII. In order to get USDA accreditation and keep it, the new Mike needed to come from an accredited source...

Dr. Baker was just about to go look at a tiger when he got word that that facility wasn't accredited...if he got the new Mike from there, there wouldn't be ANY future Mikes...

Dogs kill more humans than tigers and lions combined each year. And the number isn’t remotely close.

You are not, and you never will be. He's running a multi-million dollar athletic powerhouse. You're running a lawnmower.

I mean, millions of people a day encounter dogs. Not many humans are hanging around tigers and lions.

The Real Question is why doesn't Mike have a girlfriend. ?

We should chip in and get him a young female Bengal tiger that way Mike and his woman can make more Mike Juniors.

In fairness, more people probably choke to death on steak than are mauled to death by tigers, but that in no way indicates it is safe to stick your thumb up a tiger's arse.

Tigers kill around 1800 people per year. There are less than 5000 wild tigers in world. If you assume 300 of those deaths are from caged tigers, you still have about 1 human killed for every 3 tigers.

Now, think about the number of dogs in your own city. Divide it by 3. Dogs don't kill that many people. Pit bulls don't even have that kind of kill rate. Stupid statistics.

Don't forget Reveille and Tusk!

But something is different about a Tiger and these other animals. I can't put my finger on it.

I think bringing a Bengal Tiger to a college football game in a cage is wrong. Guess that makes me LSUPETA?
